Rigid Solar Panel Attachment

My up coming project will be to adding 4 - 100w rigid solar panels on my Isata 4 25FW. I understand the the roof is made up of a textured fiberglass skin on top of 1/4" plywood, attached to aluminum trusses. I'm considering using angle aluminum for the base attached by a combo of VHB tape and screws into the aluminum. Any thoughts and/or experiences?

I am going to install two 200 watt panels on my Cedar Creek with the 3M VHB tape. I have the RV Flex Armor roof and can't think of drilling any holes in it. wish me luck.

I talked to AM solar extensively, theyve pioneered the VHB install, and they confirmed as I feared that the textured roof will require penetration.

That said once you get up there and realise how many other penetrations there are covered in dicor, another couple are just a drop in the bucket.

Just another maintenance item.

I installed 4-100 watt Renogy panels on my DX3 with a fiberglass roof using their glue down mounts. I used 3m 5200 adhesive which is considered a permanent adhesive. I installed mine 2 years ago and so far everything looks as it did when I installed it.Click image for larger version

I marked where I wanted them, drilled small starter holes, put down dicor and screwed into place. After that ,covered all the mounts and screws with dicor. That was back in2013. Still up there and no leaks. Dont even wiggle.

I did the same as A32Deuce, three months ago. Dove it 2700 miles and it is just fine.

Rigid Solar Panel Attachment

Whatever you do make sure they are well anchored. I had a factory installed rigid solar panel and during a strong wind the end of last November it blew right off the roof. Finally had it replaced, under warranty, with a flexible panel - caulked all the way around so the wind won't be able to get under it.

Thanks for the posts. I think I'm going with the combo 3M VHB tape and SS 1/4" self tapping screws. Won't have to worry.
