ScanGauge for DX3?
Hello, my apologies ahead of time if this was covered elsewhere but I wasn't able to find a thread that answers definitively....
I just checked under the steering wheel and it looks like I have a J1939 connector on my 2021 DX3 (Cummins model)... I assume the ScanGauge D is compatible with this?
2nd question is ScanGauge the one to go with? Any ones with fancier screens or user interfaces? Any of you all who have put one in, feedback? Worthwhile? Of course people always ask me, "What kind of MPG are you getting?" Thus far, my answer has been "I don't have a damn clue"
Thanks!

Yes its the Scanguage D
I've run mine for 60 some thousand miles now and I'll say this. It's nice to glance down and get an instant mileage readout or some of the other sensors. I don't trust it worth a damn for Distance to Empty or some of the other useful fuel calculations it gives. I've just seen it miss entire legs too many times (even while turned on sometimes) to trust it when I'm getting low. It's been of 20 gal sometimes on the fillup.
Anyways, in that time I've learned my range pretty reliably so it hasn't been an issue. I know Master Blaster and some of the others have picked up bluetooth ones that go to an Ipad and give you all kinds of other read outs as well. May be worth a look at those, but if you just want a MPG readout the Scangauge D will do you just fine.

Based on a number of discussions on these forums, I skipped the ScanGauge and went with the Bluefire. I've got it all set up, just haven't had any trips with it yet.

Bluefire is the way to go. Way more functionality for less $ than Scangauge.

X3 for BlueFire. Had the ScanGauge first. BlueFire is considerably better IMHO.

BlueFire without question. Can run on basically any device, Apple, Android, Windows. Easy to configure screens.
$162 plus shipping. You will need a tablet or laptop. I chose to mount a permanent Samsung tablet on the center console. I also run it on my Windows 10 laptop and my Windows 10 desktop in a virtual Bluestacks Android emulator environment to develop, test and enhance display screens.

Magnatude I really like your set up. I've heard several people say they were not able to get EGT temps on theirs.. Do you have a different or newer setup? EGT is one of the main things I wanted and have held off on buying this for that reason. Where do you have yours mounted?

I bought a Y splittler for the J port, I run both Scan Gauge and BlueFire. I already had the scan gauge and it is sometimes easier to glance at for MPG or miles until empty. I added the BlueFire after talking to Sunset Beast. I like it as well, but I feel both have different information, that is why I kept both.

So, question. I have the scan gauge and it works fine.. does the Blue Fire work better on ios or android? I see there's two different choices on their website. Aaron, did you get splitter from their website?

Slim, I use an iPhone, so I cant answer about the Android. I did buy the y cable from Bluefire. Figured I had a better chance of it working if they sold it along with their unit.

Slim, I use the android and it works great. I really like the ease of use on this system and you can adjust it anytime you want to in a matter of minutes.

Late to This Discussion, But...
I hadn't heard about Bluefire, but today I just received and programmed a ScanGauge II for my 2021 Tundra that, inexplicably, does NOT have the transmission temperature gauge that my 2012 model did (even though this new one has a tow package including electronic brake controller).
I am already living in Bluetooth h*ll, so I actually wanted a reader that is hard-wired to the OBD port.
This ScanGauge works beautifully, and actually displays two transmission temperatures: the pan, and the torque converter. Plus it can be programmed for any other desired readout available in your vehicle for which you have the codes. It can display any 4 codes at a time in a very compact display, so I use the two tranny temperatures, coolant temp, and current horsepower.

What engine functions, temps, boost, etcetera readouts (not warning lights) are stock on the DX3, or Force HD (M2 106) chassis? My Ram5500 and Chevy Duramax had about everything if you simply scrolled through the LED functions on the dash. I am getting the feeling the M2 106 doesn't have these, or why would there be any need for these aftermarket monitors? I've recently traded in my Isata 5 (Ram5500) for a Force HD but wont receive if for a few more months, and now now sure what to expect. BTW my force will come with the Detroit DD8 engine.

There are gauges for engine temp, trans temp, fuel, air pressure and oil pressure. No digital readouts stock

Magnatude: Any chance you have or can snap a pic of your tablet mounted on center console? I won't have my Force for a while yet, but trying to get things ready.

The Scanguage is good for what it is. 1980's technology. If you want a simple display of 4 gauges its great. The J1939 is not programmable. You have to scan your bus and send to Scanguage to see what is available. They can then try to program a gauge for you. They also don't have any DEF information available by default.
BlueFire allows you to monitor way more gauges in a much more user friendly fashion, set alerts, log data, etc. And the default set of values you can monitor is far greater than Scangauge. I had a Scanguage to start for the primary function of monitoring transmission temp. Bluefire replaced it and I'd never go back to a Scanguage.

Ditto to what LSL said. Love my BlueFire. Sold the ScanGauge and haven’t regretted it a minute.

I'm planning on eventually running both, but, wanted the quick glance of the scangauge sitting ontop of the new console (once it arrives). Plugged it in quick yesterday and the truck was griping about parking brake not being set, it was for sure set. I'm currently in information overload and Iowa decided to get crazy cold/windy yesterday. Will be heading out there as time permits to keep messing with things over the rest of the holiday weekend. If anyone has seen this before and knows how to fix, fell free to chime in.
Thanks,
Jim
