That's correct. You buy a vehicle you pay the tax. In fact if you buy anything you pay a tax. In AZ you pay a tax if you buy from a dealer, even used vehicles. However, if you buy from a private party, no tax. In CA you pay a tax from a private party purchase when you register the vehicle. There is a lot of false reporting of price when registering a private purchase vehicle.

I already have a house in AZ. My CA house is on the market. I'm joining the mass exodus of those moving East. Gas is about $1.50/gal cheaper when you cross the Colorado River. I'm gonna miss this State, not.

We left Cali in 2014 and moved to Washington State for DW's family. We left there last year and have just moved into our new Arizona home.

State laws are all over the place. Example: Ohio does not charge sales tax on used vehicles but charges a use tax when you apply for a title that just happens to be the same thing.

Every government body wants a slice of anything you buy.

I've seen people asking the same prices as new however I don't think many are getting those prices now.

There's a 2016 DX3 on RVTrader asking $192k and it hasn't moved in about two months. More are being added regularly and I think as the 2023's are starting to be delivered you'll see a shift in pricing.

Unlike cars & trucks, these are not a necessity for people to get to/from work.

And at the end of the day, they're going to get their money. Call it sales tax, highway use tax, property tax.... doesn't matter. They're getting their share.
