Slide Out Gearbox failure

Has anyone had any problems with the slide out gear box stripping the gears? We were at NASCAR race this weekend and when we went to close the BH slideout it would not do anything but grind the gears. Had to pay $270 for RV repair to come out and get the slide back in. Visited local repair shop and they are contacting Forest River to see about replacing the gearbox. Not complaining or anything just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem. Sure hope I can get it fixed before June so we can still make the Rally.

DX3 Bedroom slide

Replaced ours last year. The “Dental Problem” was just one tooth stripped. Once off that tooth it would move until the gear came around full turn. With a couple of phone calls the Gear Box mfg sent a new one complimentary. Was not the easiest to replace and with persistence required to re-“calibrate”. When you finish you will have a good understanding on how it works. I would only recommend doing yourself if mechanically inclined. I think I could reinstall a new gearbox now in one hour, providing no other damaged or broken chains/cables. Be sure to read and watch the mfg manuals.
Best of luck....Bob

Update:

Gearbox replaced today. Dealers done an excellent job and accomplished it without problems. No obvious reason for the failure of the gearbox, guess it was just a weak one. Slide does move in and out much smoother now with new gearbox. Just wanted to update everyone.

That's great Dennis, see you in a couple of weeks. Making trip to Fenwick Island next week then on to Tenn. MH at Freightliner for service and other issues, should be finished today.
