Slide topper not sloped to drain rain

Hi,

I am having problems with rain water collecting on my slide topper. It collects so much I have to pull in the slide if it is a major rain event to avoid damage to the topper. I took it back to the dealer to see if it just needed to be tightened. They told me Forest River installed it with no slope so it wasn’t a “sagging” problem it was an install problem. They are contacting FR to see what to do to avoid any warranty issues. I’m just curious if anyone else had this issue.

Thanks,
Karen

I take two of those toy plastic Balls you see in WM in the big netted box. about the size of a basket ball. and push them to the center. no build up of water. I use a telescopic pole to push them in and out. Stupid, but it works for me. you'll die of old age waiting on warranty

The slide topper creating a lake within it is not a problem. The water will exit either end when retracted and perhaps over the side; just don't stand near. The slide will remain dry as that is the topper's job.

X2
My last 4 R/Vs all had toppers and they all held a certain amount of water. It has never hurt a thing nor ruined any of the toppers.

I'd rather the water be on the topper than on the slide roof.

There are literally hundreds of forum posts about this and what folks do/don't do to keep the water off. Some use beach balls, some build a PVC teepee, some use rope, some use pool noodles but most do nothing.

You can raise/lower one end to drain before closing or just stand back and let the water rinse the side of the slide.

Much ado over nothing.

water retention is not a problem as said above, what is a PITA is when they start flapping in the wind. On my MBS, the one over the rear slide started to pull all the screws out that were holding it to the body when it started flapping in the wind. To stop the flapping I ran 2 pieces of rope up over the slide cover and pulled it down to the top of the roof and tied it under the slide. There is enough extra material wound on the tube but tie the end of the cover away from the tube first.

on older campers I have had I could pull the slide in when the wind started up, but the MBS if I pulled the rear slide in I had no where to sleep.

Do it slowly in steps and check to see no exterior compartments are open and you're good

The "beach ball" idea also helps with the flapping in the wind issue.
