storage box on back of isata 3--golf clubs, chairs etc

We are considering an Isata 3 for 3 month trip but I am concerned about storage. I have a luggage rack 24 x 48 that fits a 2 inch receiver. I am thinking of building a plywood box on top of this rack that could hold 2 sets of golf clubs, folding chairs, propane stove etc. Not a lot of weight but bulky things that won't fit easily in below floor storage in Isata 3.

Anybody done this.......suggestions? Comments appreciated

First.....does your Isata have a trailer hitch?
What’s it’s weight rating? Not tow rating but weight ON IT.
Then.....how heavy will all of your stuff be? Golf clubs add up quickly. Including the weight of the box?
Will it need lights?
Will license plate be visible?

You should weigh all that first and, make good guess on the weight of box.

When adding weight to the far rear you can disturb the front rear balance.

You need to be concerned about removing weight from the front wheels which could cause handling problems and degrade braking.

Here's a pretty good source for information:

I have a cargo carrier that includes a bike rack. I carry a TSC locking metal tool box (sturdy and light) on the cargo carrier. I can easily carry what I need/want and stay significantly under 500 lbs.

If you get the RW instead of the full wall you will have room for your stuff in the rear pass through compartment.
