Surge protector

On my solera s , I had installed a sureguard protector hard wired in. Asked about getting one for my 2018 isata 3 and was told systems
Are smart and don’t need this item anymore
Just wondering if any other new owners installed one. Don’t want to waste money

I wonder if that statement comes with a written lifetime warranty. Sounds like a load of .........

You were told BS. It doesn't matter how smart your system is, if it gets a higher voltage than normal your converter and other voltage sensitive appliances are going to suffer.

Your system is not going to notice a gradual rise in voltage, say from 120v to 150v and that is where damage will start to occur. What you need is a EMS (Energy Management System) that will monitor for gradual fluctuations in voltage.

Progressive Industries makes the best.

That’s what I thought. Been at several campgrounds that the protector had tripped

I was told the surge protector installed at the factory is one and done. So I installed a Progressive Industries EMS.

I went with this........

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I can evaluate the power source before I ever plug in the coach, I can take it with me if I upgrade or remove it if it fails.

I thought about that one too
But I understand they grow legs and walk away, especially since the new isata power cord isn’t permanently attached, so I went with a wired one

That is one of the PI portable models, they also make a 30amp portable. I have a PI-HW30C hardwired that lets me see the condition of the power source. It will not let power pass through to the converter if it finds a problem. PI also has a HW-50C.

Just plugging a portable one in with no load will tell you if the voltage is high but may not tell you if the voltage is going to be low until you put a load on it. Personally, I am going to put a hardwired one in.

They do warn when the voltage is too low at the pole. I do not think the warning is tied to what load you put on it. Maybe I read something wrong. ;(

Not necessarily true.

If the supply line voltage is above 132v, below 104v or line frequency above 69Hz, below 51Hz then the PI will show the error code immediately while shutting down the internal relay.

If you are connecting it before plugging in the RV, then the PI will not energize the relay while at the same time it will display the error code.

The PI portable models work the same as the hard-wired models. BTW, I have photos on the internals of a PI-HW50C.

I am not sure how the Surgegard models work because their not made the same as PI.

Well...I only mentioned voltage levels, not frequency or neutral/ground swaps but yes, those others would be detected with a portable unit first by just plugging it in

The key is what happens when there is a lightning strike to the power source?

I cry BS as well. I would always recommend a surge guard, on ANY coach. I am looking at different versions we might be able to make standard, but there are a lot of options.

So Brian, is there a way to have a surge protector added to our order? We bought at the Pomona show and apparently they have not sent to orders to Indiana yet.

Looked under our new isata 3 w
And I see 3 grey bundles and 2 black bundles coming out of floor
I wonder if someone from dynamax could tell me if wires from landline plug in go through one of those
Thinking I could attach surguard to metal frame and wire there?
Unless you can suggest a better place.

We would not have time to add any surge guards to existing orders. That would require harness changes (at least for us) and design changes that we don't have slated in. Someone could likely do it aftermarket, or I would suggest portable.

30 amp? Even though the coach has 50 amp?
