This Is What I Would Have Told the Cop...
This dude that cut in front of me as I was going over 60mph! (Far right bottom of photo you can see my hood of the DX3). I guess his family tree did not branch that much...but he is lucky I roll with the engine brake on all the time.
I would encourage all to get a dashcam and let the "D" on the gear select remind you to turn on the Dashcam before you roll a tire. Could save you a bunch of legal money in court when you are "brake-checked" or encounter other forms of dumbasseries on the open road...DX3 would have put him in the rocks if I had not been paying attention.

Adding that to my list of installs. Thanks for the reminder!

I’m not sure of the OPs camera model but it’s pretty good. I recently replaced my three dash cams with models by Rove. Even their cheapest 1080p model has awesome picture quality. All have built in WiFi so you can immediately download a video record to view on your phone or tablet.

Dashcams
We have a rather large (37 ft) Class A and I am at a loss as to how best mount a dash cam. The windshield is too far in front of the "cockpit" to mount a dash cam on the glass and I haven't had a lot of luck with suction mounts attaching to the vinyl covering of the top of the dashboard. Any suggestions?

Dash CAM front and back on Tow Vehicle!
Working on DASH cam for back of trailer.
On our very first Camping trip with our old trailer we had 2 very bad incidents.
One was by an 18 wheeler that came over from an access road doing a minimum of 80! The rear of his trailer missed the front of our vehicle by feet! My wife says inches. I saw him coming at last minute and hit the brakes. If not for that, well I hate to think. It rattled me pretty much the rest of the day.
The other incident was with a "fellow Rver". S(he) went by me and before the rear of his trailer cleared my hood he started to come over into my lane. And quickly! So not an error. He was doing it on purpose. I was maneuvering on to the bad shoulder to avoid him. Hairy moment as both truck and trailer were wagging each other.
Phew!!! Stay safe everyone.

Don’t know why you would have a problem mounting it on your windshield. Ours is mounted between the two windshield wipers where there is about a 4 inch space. Suction cup works fine.

We use the Escort M1. Great video. App controlled. WiFi connectivity. And video storage on MicroSD Card.

Stupid Me?
I’ve contemplated getting a dash cam but then wonder what would I do if I taped an accident that I caused? Hmmmm...do I hide the camera, erase the memory, lie when asked if I had one or what if I was dead or incapacitated and now my DW suffers the consequences of my actions.
I don’t mean that I should not be held responsible if it were my fault but the civil ambulance chaser lawyers would love that video.
I’m a safe driver and do not speed when pulling the 5ver. 65mph max. I’m almost 70 and have never received a traffic ticket. Now, saying that does not mean that I have never done something stupid that could have caused an accident. You know, an accident, not reckless driving, not cutting people off but a momentary loss of focus. Maybe I’m the only one that has done that but I doubt it. The question is, do I want video history of that? Opinions....

Even if you DO cause the accident, that is what insurance is for. My feelings are that I would rather have proof of innocence more than a possible proof of guilt.

If I think I’m at fault it only takes a couple of seconds to remove the SIM card. If I’m dead then I don’t care.
Few years back I recorded someone else’s accident. It was obvious the party at fault did it intentionally and his three passengers tried to back up his story. I showed the video to the cop and he wanted to take the entire unit as “evidence”. Since it had a record of the last 10 or so hours of driving I refused. Situation got just a little tense until a supervisor showed up and said all they needed was the video of the actual incident.
BTW the four perps were arrested and charged with several offenses.

I got a small piece of plexiglass (local glass shop, no charge) purchased some screws and those nice looking washers that are used for finishing car trim. Believe they are called finishing cup washers? Screwed plexiglass piece on to dashboard within easy reach. Works great!.

The round disk that come with gps can be order from Garmin. They have adhesive on the bottom to stick to your dash. They can be removed and they will not leave any residue.

I just have the old Garmin drive assist 51. But I do want to upgrade to the Garmin RV 785–-I kinda want to play around with the RV version but have not made the purchase yet. I did not want to have two devices (GPS & cam) cluttering dash so just went with integrated cam.
As far as mounting my suction cups always seemed to give way so I just glued to the windshield with e6000 silicone adhesive that I had left over from Grill guard project. So far so good...tight as a tick.

I mounted my dash cam in the upper right corner of my windshield to keep it out of my way. I have it pointed slightly to the left of the center of my lane. I have the camera powered by a switched outlet so that the camera turns on when the engine is turned on. I installed the camera because I had someone try an insurance scam wreck by cutting me off. Luckily, she cut me off so close that I floored the brakes before she touched hers. My truck's antilock brakes did not lock up but the trailer was sure chirping the tires.

The big issue is as we all know that if you rear end someone the suspicion of guilt usually falls on the person doing the rear ending—“you must have been following too close” the argument goes.
Truckers face this a lot as autos will purposely pull out in front of their rigs and slam on brakes (ie brake checking) knowing your stopping distance is greater. You hit them, they sue, you lose unless you have witnesses. Companies would rather “settle” than fight the charge—especially when the perp shows up in court using a cane and neckbrace.
So, a cam just proves to da judge that you were NOT being reckless. We drive rigs heavy enough to warrant CDL training (IMHO), but we generally do not have that endorsement on our license. It is an uphill battle from the get-go if you get in this predicament. Spending a couple hundred bucks and being disciplined to use cam seems like a good investment to me.

This is the one we bought. Fits directly onto the rear view mirror. Works great and is not obvious for someone looking to mark those without dashcams
