took Rev for generator work

My 2 1/2 year old 2.8 k generator just quit starting half way through vacation so I did everything I could think of before taking to a cummings repair center . Wow - all it needed was a new ignition coil ( took 3 weeks and $1200 to fix it ) I knew better but just gave in - I had debated on just buying a brand new one , same size for $2300 and replacing it myself which would of given me another 2 year warranty also but always too late once you hire someone else to look at it . NEXT TIME !!!

Good information. Thanks.

The inaccessibility of that generator always adds a hefty surcharge when someone works on it... even to change the oil. Can't work on it ourselves due to physical limitations.

I can check or the change the oil , spark plug and air filter pretty easy but you are right for anything else - they had to remove the unit from underneath to change that $40 part .

Wow, a $1200 repair in just a couple of years

Sure wished Honda made an onboard RV generator!

call them back and try to get it under warranty. they have a 2 year warranty on everything and a 3 year warranty on major components. obviously they get to decide what major components are and i would suspect they are the internal engine parts. but no harm giving it a try. perhaps ask them to split the difference.

the only reason I took it to Cummings was that they said it May be under the 3rd year coverage and they also wanted my proof of purchase date - but when picking it up " of course it was not covered - lol " will that be cash or visa !

sorry, at least you tried. not that it matters but they did a repair on ours that was past two years and they did cover it under the three year major parts clause (cylinder head).

That stinks and now I am concerned since I am coming up on 2 1/2 years. I hope that coul lasts through your ownership of the REV.

Same here. I know owners that can service the gen themselves but my mobility has deteriorated.

Next time take it to a good auto mechanic or a lawn mower shop

Educations are not cheap. That is why mechanics command high wages. The high cost is in the knowledge, not the parts. Said a mechanic and fleet manager.
