Towing Jeep Wrangler

So - We went to Anchors down and met some great people. When we bought our DX3 we decided not to tow but car rent at destination. After much coaching from Joet19711 on having a toad, coaching from Shultz01 on getting a Wrangler and good advice from Orangecrush, here it is. Thanks to everyone. ( Before anyone comments it does have doors and a roof ).
I have never flat towed before ( it’s illegal in the UK). I intend to purchase a road master nighthawk with SMI Air Force air braking system. Anybody have any experience or advice?

Nothing productive to add, but just wanted to say nice Jeep and welcome to the dark side! When you get ready to start modifying the Jeep I'll be happy to jump in with tips then

As for the braking system, I hadn't seen that one. Looks very slick so I'll be watching your experiences closely. The only other one I'd seen that uses air had a piece that went in between the master cylinder and brake pedal. I'd love to ditch the compressor box setup.

Haha congrats!! Now don't forget about the "jeep wave". You will be waved at by other wrangler owners, wave back!! You're in the club

Jeep is extremely easy to flat tow, Jeep makes a Plug and Play OEM harness for flat towing...ReadyBrake Brute Tow Bar doesn't require the normal braking setup, worth checking out...all plug and play...it's all you need to flat tow a Jeep...it's al-u-minum and 30#...rated for 8000k...Ready Brake and Ready Brute Home

Congrats!!

Beautiful and very wise buying the 'Hard Rock' edition. You can go anywhere with that beast right out of the box. I tell my friends that owning a Hard Rock is really cheating, it makes off roading so easy. Have fun out there. If you go to Moab during Easter Jeep Safari and you are a Jeep newbie there are about 3 or 4 beginner runs you can choose and the folks with you will teach you all about 4 wheeling. Your family will love it and the Moab area is just beautiful.

He's about to find out... LOL

Just Empty Every Pocket!

Oh and btw, there is a certain way to flat tow. READ THIS!

How To Tow A Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Behind An RV
First, the transfer case must be shifted into NEUTRAL. Here's how to do that:
Key must be in the "accessory" position:

Depress and hold the brake pedal.
Set Parking Brake
Shift an automatic transmission into NEUTRAL (N) or depress clutch pedal on manual transmission.
Shift the transfer case level into NEUTRAL (N).
Start the engine.
Shift the automatic transmission into DRIVE (D) or the manual transmission into gear.
Release the brake pedal and ensure that there is no vehicle movement.
IMPORTANT: Shut the engine off and place the ignition key into the unlocked OFF position.*
Shift the automatic transmission into PARK (P).
Apply the parking brake.
Attach the Jeep to the tow vehicle with a tow bar.
Release the parking brake.
Note: Damage to the transmission may occur if the transmission is shifted into PARK (P) with the transfer case in NEUTRAL (N) and the engine running!

Note: Do not use a bumper mounted clamp-on tow bar on the Jeep Wrangler or Wrangler Unlimited JK. The bumper face bar can be damaged. You can shop all the bumpers we sell here

Currie Tow Bar is a permanent mount tow plate and goes unnoticed for the most part...https://www.amazon.com/Currie-Enterp.../dp/B003EM5CZY

Thanks for all the info. I am looking for a replacement bumper that I could attach either a blue ox or a Roadmaster to. Not many around for Rubicon 2018 JL. The one you mention on amazon is only for a JK model. Anyone any suggestions? I’m assuming I could fit a Roadmaster baseplate with the existing bumper?

IMO, DO NOT USE THE STOCK BUMPER!

Hopefully Shultz01 will pipe in, maybe you'd want to PM him. He has a nice bumper on his new Rubicon JL

The blue ox baseplate is pretty clean and bolts through the frame on the JK. I’d assume very little has changed that would need to be updated for the JL but I haven’t spent enough time up close with them to know for certain.

I’ll seocnd the fact that the Currie baseplate is slick. Might take some modification to fit your needs though.

That's the only way I would use a baseplate. I've seen people mount "mountable" D rings in the stock bumper and try to tow with it.
