Winterizing Shurflo water pump

In the PDF for the water pump it said to disconnect the inlet supply plumbing to winterize. I've never done that before when using the compressed air winterizing method.

Is it really necessary to disconnect the pump if you blow out the water?

Perhaps the manufacturer didn't consider that the owner would do that first. Shame on them for not suggesting that! I think you'll be fine if you blow out the lines and use RV antifreeze.

Blowing out the lines does not remove any water on the inlet side of the pump (plastic suction/strainer) or the pump itself. Remember there is a check valve built into the pump to keep city water from back flowing into the fresh tank. That same check valve keeps the compressed air from evacuating the water from the pump and the inlet side of the plumbing when using the blow out method.

At the very least you should run the pump dry (after the fresh tank is drained) to try to evacuate whatever water remains and at best, remove the inlet plumbing and drain if not ingesting antifreeze.
