Wrapping my enclosed trailer to match DX3?
I am having an enclosed trailer being built and I would love to have it wrapped to match the graphics of my DX3.
Does anyone have any experience with this or know how you would duplicate the design? Is there some kind of digital file I could get from Dynamax? Color codes etc?
I’m picking the trailer up in July. And was planning on reaching out to a few wrapping shops in my area afterwards.
Thanks!

Orangecrush has plenty of experience... did it 5 times I think to get the colors matched lol
I've seen a couple post similar setups on Facebook, not sure if you're in the group there.

Prior life I installed many decals and even did full wrap on semi trailers. Most of those were for 7-up or Hy-Vee. With 3M Scotch-print, most anything is possible color-wise. Last I knew, they had the full 16.5 million colors to choose from.
Side-note, rivets totally suck with that..

Any idea as to expected cost? I just purchased a new ATC 24 ft enclosed trailer. White=easy resell, wrap not so much. I was thinking of emulating one or two elements of the design as opposed to a full wrap.

It can be removed
I had Red graphics done on a black Miata, when I sold it I removed them. Some people loved it and others did not. Was pretty simple to remove after 5 years!

Curious to see what you come up with. I also have a white 24’ trailer that I was thinking about wrapping. Even a simple matching grey might be ok…

dx3 with 32 foot trailer 1 foot extra tall
My estimate to match my DX3 was $ 7000 to $ 9000 for full wrap.

I tackled this as a Covid project last Spring.
Having a Sign Company allowed me to play with this while things were quiet.
Yes 3M and other suppliers offer a million + colors but matching is more difficult than it appears. The challenge is that the vinyls and the paint on your motorhome are going to react differently to the sun. You can get fairly close....but its hard to nail it right on. I would guess we printed no less then 25 proofs with my motorhome at the shop. Holding them up in the sun...in cloud...trying to get a perfect match. At the end of the day...we matched 2 out of the three colors pretty well.
The technology in vinyls and printing is amazing but you still can't replicate paint with a vinyl 100%
Cost? Cost is all based on square foot pricing in this world. Once you have an idea of what you need you should be able to get some quotes from local providers....and yes rivets suck.
I don't have any pictures of my truck/trailer hooked up. Maybe I can take one on the weekend.
Good luck!

We charge $9.00 to $12.00 a sq. ft. You might be able to take a high res. picture and reproduce it that way, we’ve done it to reproduce rv graphics, it comes pretty close

trailer wrap
I just had my 24' Interstate trailer wrapped by Kam @ Oregon Design Company in Portland Ore to match my DX3 for $3,500. They were able to take digital pictures, and matched the color and design very closely. My trailer siding is screwed on, so they removed and replaced all the screws. I will post pictures in the next couple days.

I am sure that nobody actually cares, but there is a word that describes the concept of a color looking different in different lighting. The word is "metamerism" [muh-TAM-err-izm]. You can wikipedia the details if you are interested. The quick thumbnail description is that different light sources (incandescent, sunlight, fluorescent, etc) emit slightly different combinations of the spectrum in their attempt to appear "white" (some fail miserably - think of those old sodium vapor lamps in parking lots and their strong yellow cast). So an object that might appear to be green under a "cold" LED bulb (lots of blue light), might appear to be brown under fluorescent (less blue, more yellow).
I work on the other side of your printer as a presales engineer and technical trainer (I teach people how to use wide format printers).
As part of my training, I attended a seminar on the subject. The speaker was a color consultant who worked with most of the car manufacturers who sell in North America. He pointed out that all of the cars from all of the manufacturers tend to be one of 12-15 colors at any given time. Part of that is attributable to whatever happens to be trending, but despite the fancy names given by each company, you tend to have white, off white, silver, gray, light blue, dark blue, black, bright red, dark red/burgundy, dark green, and a few others.
This is because there are really only a limited number of colors that are going to look the same in the dealer's showroom under fluorescent light, in the parking lot under daylight, in the parking lot under mercury vapor, and in your garage under incandescent (or lately, LED) light.
Turns out, it's science!

I had my 25' trailer wrapped to match my DX3 by a company that does only wraps. They printed and installed no less than 4-5 times trying to match the shading, colors and design. After that many attempts, they gave up. The colors are light and dark all in the same color so it's hard to match the varying shades within the same color.
My bodyshop does all of Hendrick Motorsports personal and museum cars, they use a company called Red eye so I tried them.
First time out, they were able to match it. I was extremely pleased with the results, the only thing is the sheen isn't as shiny as the RV itself.
The cost was just shy of 8K.

I actually do care. When I was learning to print color photographs I finally understood that ambient lighting makes a huge difference in the way the colors appear. What I never understood was why color labs judge their color balance under 5000 K lighting. Almost all households used, or at least the time, incandescent lights. I always thought they should’ve judged color under the same incandescent lighting. There’s a big difference between 5000 K and 2800 K. But enough of that!

And I care as well. This is the beauty of forums, not only does one learn about topics pertinent to whatever forum you may be reading, but you get to learn from others who have expertise and experiences that broaden your horizons and give you information you never knew.
Now let's see someone use metamerism in "keep a word, change a word", or in a spelling bee- muh? (met).

I am having trouble finding the company called Red eye. Can you please provide a bit more information such as location, web address or phone number? Thank you!
