I don't have a benz but I would think if you turn the disconnect off the battery will not charge, thats how it works on my TT and on my old Class A

Leave the battery on. Check the water level every couple of months.

I have a Forester on the Ford chassis along with a 30amp dedicated service. The converter charger is not disconnected when the battery cut-off is in the off position and will continue to charge the house batteries. There is significant parasitic drain of .3amps on mine when on and .1amps when off. I usually leave my cut-off in the on position when not in use and hooked up to shoreline power. This is on mine and yours may differ.

I should have thought of this before making my first post. There is an easy way to answer your question and be sure what is going on. with the coach on shore power and the disconnect (battery switch) on use a multi meter and read the voltage at the batteries, then turn the disconnect off and read the voltage again. If it is lower with the disconnect off then the converter is not charging the batteries in that position.

Greetings Petersb. I recently acquired a 2016 Prism on a Sprinter. I recently added solar and found the easiest route from the charge controller to the battery was by making a connection to the converter. When I tested connectivity to the battery, I found that the battery switch must be ON to complete the circuit. So, at least in the 2016 Prism, the battery switch must be ON for the converter to charge the battery when on shore power.

On my 2014 Solera, the converter does not charge with the master switch in the off position. If your hearing is good, an easy way to check is to listen for the converter fan to come on when the master switch is turned on. The converter runs through a startup cycle whenever power is supplied to it.
