First Oil change

Just purchased 2016 Sunseeker/Forest River 2400MBS with 11,600 miles a few weeks ago and have the 161 days past service and wrench indicator.

Previous owner did let me know about the warning light and that they brought it in to be serviced but at the time it did not need a oil change.

Questions

1) Best place to get oil and air filters? Any other filters I need to replace?
2) I run Rotella T6 in my motorcycles and want to use it in my RV, what viscosity should I go with and how many quarts?
3) Are there any Zerk fittings that need grease?
4) How do I clear the code?
5) Is this a tough job or should I just get A## raped by the Mercedes dealer?

Thanks!

You need to run a Mercedes approved 229.52 spec oil. You can search on a list of approved oils.

Mobil 1 ESP 0w or 5w 30 are approved and go on sale at NAPA a couple times a year for about $6qt. Get the OEM oil filter for about $11. Make sure it IS ESP! Read the label on the back. Autozone is currently selling a 5qt jug for $34 - that's a decent deal. You can spend about $100 and do it yourself or pay the dealer anywhere from $200-$600. Easy choice me. No need to even jack up the MH. You will need the filter wrench which is about $20.

The reset procedure depends on if you have steering wheel buttons or not but is fairly straight forward. YouTube has videos.

You might change the air filter - easy to do. Cabin filer is simple.

I paid a dealer like $225 ( did my own oil change first ) for the A service which checks some suspension components.

Has the AEM recall been done? Also the airbag recalls. Good luck!

Be careful if you decide to change the fuel filter yourself. Special tool for clamps, involves removing and replacing turbo fresh air line, which has a “compensator ring” which needs to be replaced and reinstalled very correctly - or it can come out, get sucked into and destroy the turbo. Mine did just that after an oil and fuel filter change by a purportedly Mercedes trained tech.

#5 Sounds interesting to say the least , do all Mercedes dealerships offer that as a incentive? LOL

We do the oil and filter change ourselves. Easy. But…I use Mercedes to do the fuel filter change. Not worth the risk, in my opinion of blowing up the turbo if you mess that up.

Easiest oil change I've ever done. But like Audi said the days of Rotella 15-40 in diesels is long gone. the ESP pours in like water.

OK guys yes that was fairly easy I took it over to my friend's shop at his home, it's big enough to take the motor home inside as the heat is still pretty unbearable out here in AZ.

I used this oil and it meets the Specifications and I was able to clear the Maintenance code. Changed out all the Filters and it turned out I found some rodent crap in the Airbox.

Also put in the new OEM Co detector and also two new coach batteries thanks for all your guys help and advice.

So the wiper washer squirter cracked, where do I find a replacement other than Mercedes?

Next task is to get the Cameras working.

That Pennzoil is a 229.31 and 229.51 spec oil, not the 229.52. That said, your chassis is likely a 2015 and I believe the 229.52 spec came out around Sept 2015 so you're good to go. The 229.52 spec is the one that increased the OCI from 10k to 20k miles so when you did the maintenance reset, you should have chosen 10k.

For the windshield squirter, you have to buy the entire hose assy from Mercedes - as I recall it was about $16.

Check the screw toghtness on the hood vents - I lost one and the screw on the other one was missing. $32 on eBay. MB charges $6 per screw. (take that for what it's worth )

I used a wire tie to fasten the windshield washer to the wiper arm.

This is what is in my manual and Penzoil Euro meets that spec. It had good reviews so I went with it.
Would have preferred to use my beloved rotella like I use in my motorcycles but oh well.....

at the time your manual was written, 229.51 was it. 229.52 superceded that and now there is a 229.71 which I presume is required for the newer post 2020 models. 229.51 obviously works but you need to set your maintenance countdown accordingly.

what they are saying is 229.51 needs to be changed more often than 229.52.
Mine used to time out on time before I hit the miles so you might be fine.

Yeah, The 229.51 I believe was either 10k or 15k OCI (1 year )and the 229.52 is 20k OCI and after the AEM recall, MB changed the time on the 229.52 from 1 yr to 2 years.

I still change mine much more frequently than the miles call for.

It was tricky clearing the code the 1st time not sure what maintenance interval it is now, but I wrote down the mileage and just will go with that.

I'll probably change it at 6 to 7000 miles, But I am still working at least for another 8 to 10 months So I will not be able to rack that mileage up in a year.
More like 2-3 years.

The clip to my windshield washer broke also I had it taped on with electricians tape. When I took my rig in for the Emissions recall I had a new clip put on it was cheap. The service tech suggested that I put the tape on it to protect it from the sun, He called it a cheap part. Was the emissions recall performed by the previous owner? Did they place all the new paperwork it the owners manual? There are warranty extensions on all emission components. The recall has to be done by October. That long overdo on an oil change makes me wonder if the had the recall done. In the MBS section under motorhomes you can read about the recall if you aren't familiar with it. You got a nice low mileage rig Enjoy!
