Jackknife couch install

Has anyone collapsed their dining table and installed a jack knife couch accross the table and benches?

I had a carpenter look at it. All of the measurements are ok. Just have to decide on trim so it looks professional. I hate the Dinette but don't want to lose the large drawers

Collapse table like preparing for bed. With cushens removed insert and secure jackknife to table top. Google jackknife RV, you'll get all kinds of ideas.

That way it offers features. You can restore to original easily and preserve the large drawers and add More storge under the table. Win, win, win

Our previous rig was an R with the dinette you describe: 2 opposing benches with a table top that lowered down between them to make a bed. Not very comfortable to sit in! I wish I had known about this option then!
Our current rig is a W but it has the U-shaped dinette with a pedestal table. It will also make a bed, but it is somewhat smaller. We had considered options other than the dinette, but we wanted the storage below plus we like having the table top.
We have found that the U-shape is much more comfortable for sitting or lounging. That's just our observation to those who are considering which way to go. Also, with the increased floor space of the W's design, I use a large recliner-type bag chair inside for relaxing while the DW uses the dinette area. The U dinette has inside corner cushions that are sort of a wedge shape and their placement can be reconfigured for your comfort. Just some thoughts....

After first 3-4 trips, we just decided the dinette was not comfortable for us.
we put it down permanantly. Wife made some additional cushion/backs (recovered them all) and pillows. So the dinette is now a permanant couch/day bed and we enjoy the space much more. Dog enjoyes as well. We still could put up the table if we like but have not in 2 years.

Maintain bench storage and under table insert as storage.
