Rain gutter spout fabrication
One of the things that has always bothered me on the Mercedes-Benz chassis is that when you open the driver or passenger door, if it's raining, waterfalls directly on your power window switches inside the door.
I stopped by an RV Supply Company and picked up some plastic spouts to put on my gutter. However, when looking at installing them, I would have had to break a lot of dicor sealant to put them on. No good.
I decided I could make something better. For my fix, I used some aluminum tubing that I had laying around my shop. This tubing is the same that is used in tent poles, or for mounting a flag. It is thin-walled.
For me, they were easy to make. I have a tubing bender and tin snips. That's all you need other than a way to cut the tube, and I have a metal saw for that, but a hacksaw would do.
The slot I cut in the tube, about one quarter of an inch, which slides over the end of the gutter rail. I also painted them in a flat black before installation. Although they fit tight on the rail, I did add some construction adhesive on the top side of the tube where it meets the rail.
I tested it with a hose and water now avoids falling inside the cab area. I hope this helps other handymen out there that have the same problem.
It works way better than putting a clothes pin up there!
