Sony XAV-602BT locked in Demo mode.

Recently we went for the 20,000 mile fuel filter change. My guess is they disconnected the chassis battery , and now the Sony is locked into "demo mode".

Contacted Sony who claimed the 2016 radio was out of service , but did send an e-mail, 00081415 - The mobile Bluetooth receiver is stuck in DEMO mode and the buttons are not working.

This sort of explains the problem , no way to observe the camera and watch our towd , and no way to play anything for more than a min. before returning to Sony advertising.

The big hassle is neither the book or online info matches the names on the set buttons .

Any suggestions? HELP!!!!

Try the reset, there should be a small hole that a ballpoint pen will fit into.

I have had the same thing happen. It’s in the setup options and not too hard to find.

Assuming that you've followed all the suggestions at the link that Sony supplied, and you're still not having any success, you might try pulling the fuse for the radio, letting it sit for a bit, and then putting the fuse back in. This will likely do a hard reset of the head unit and might come back in a setup mode which will allow you to disable demo mode. Or not. But if nothing else is working, it should be worth a try.

Also, if nothing seems to be working you might take the rig to an auto stereo installer. Best Buy does this but you may be able to get better (and cheaper) support from a local installer.

Good luck...let us know what you find!

No, you don’t want to cycle the power. That’s what got you where you’re at now. You can find your manual at http//esupport.sony. I just checked and it’s there.

In the mean time, here’s what you need:

That email is nothing like my owners manual.

Here, this goes straight to the manual. Note that my version is 4-476-910-11(1) and the on line version is much newer so there will be some minor differences.

Instructions from manual.
Resetting the Unit
Before operating the unit for the first time, or after
replacing the car battery or changing connections,
you must reset the unit.
1 Press the reset button on the unit.
Use a pointed object, such as a ballpoint pen.
Note
Pressing the reset button will erase the clock setting
and some stored contents.

If you are referring to the remote buttons not matching the instructions the online manual shows which button is source and home.
The "Getting Started" section of the manual explains how to get it back to normal after resetting.

Hope this helps

THANKS! folks , our error was thinking the book instructions were correct.

A ball point pen is to large in diameter , but a unbent paper clip is fine for triggering the re set.

A delight now to listen to podcasts , and still see out toad attached.
