State inspection options for Class C RVs ... anywhere?

Just heard that Class C RV state inspections can be done anywhere that car inspections can be done. What is your experience, and where do you get yours inspected?

Camping World/ Houston on I 10 West did ours for around $25.

They don't take appointments and only do it Monday through Friday.

About all they check is what is done on a car inspection and it only took about an hour. Bring your insurance card. We did the registration online about one day after the inspection.

Thanks, Reverse_snowbird ... it was actually that I-10 Camping World that told us it could be inspected anywhere that does car inspections. That appealed to us since CW is a far “schlep” from where we keep the RV.

Try GCR Tires

Yep, had same challenge finding decent, easy-access, inspection location for our Sunseeker 2400W here in San Antonio too. Most places around us said they either didn't do RV inspections at all, or had facilities that were very difficult to get in & out of with a larger vehicle.

Got some good reports from fellow RV-ers that GCR Tires just down the road from us did RV inspections and had a huge drive-thru facility that made access a breeze. Drove right over and got it done without a problem! Not sure where you're located in Houston, but Google shows you have one over on the NE side of Houston just off I-10. Might suggest you try there if convenient. Address is:

GCR Tires
299 Gellhorn Dr, Houston, TX 77013

Another idea

Our Mercedes Service Department recommended a nearby Truck Service Center for inspection of our Sunseeker 2400R.

So try someplace that services/sells large tractor trailer trucks. They have large bays and often offer the inspection service to their trucking clients.

Although we live in Massachusetts, this business model is probably applicable elsewhere.

Only inspections they do in Nebraska is if you purchase a used vehicle out of state, otherwise, we don't have inspections.

He's somewhere near Houston, TX.

I'd try a Google search. Some rv places will inspect them and probably truck places too. I didn't have any luck getting a regular inspection place to do our REV which is probably smaller than their rig.

Or Arkansas. No inspections required on any vehicle or trailer.

In Burleson, Texas just south of Ft. Worth . . . any one will do that I've found. Of course, Texas has a 2 step process. Inspection (with insurance card) and then the registration office charges an inspection fee also (again with insurance card).

I just don't get it. Even goofy California doesn't have those archaic vehicle safety inspection laws.

Thanks, all! Turns out it is no big deal ... my neighborhood has service station did it in 5 min. Did not even need to pull it into the bay, so no need for a station with truck size bays. I agree, 5er_tom: It is all about the money. But Texas is Texas!
