Tail light issues

2016 mercedes coachman prism 24' mt reverse lights are always on. I had found the taillihht controller had corrosion on it. I ckeaned it up but seems to jave come back. Why do I need this comtroller in the forst place ? Can I eliminate it wiring the tail lihhts directly?

I don't know how to fix it, but since this is a motorhome, my guess would be that you need the lights to meet state laws.
You probably need a mobile mechanic to help solve this problem.

Moved thread from the Tech and Repair section to the Motorhome section's Mercedes Benz Sprinter Chassis sub-forum since the OP's questions are specific to a MBZ Sprinter Chassis.

There are lots of threads about taillight issues on both this and the Solera forum. You might have a Curt controller...which was recalled. You might have another controller. But, in any case, it's almost certainly something in the wiring between the MB signal and the rest of the rear lights (including the 7 way trailer connector.) Search is your friend.

I don't know this for certain but I suspect the reason for the controller/interface is that most modern Euro cars use a CANBUS software that is very picky. Changing a part or adding something non-stock causes it to wig out. The controller is designed to prevent that.
