Takata airbag recall

Please don’t jump on me if this is posted in the wrong department or whatever. I’m hesitant to contribute because there are so many vultures waiting to attack when someone missteps around this forum.

I received a recall notice in the mail today for my 2017 Isata 3 (2016 chassis). The driver’s side airbag is of the infamous Tacata origin. Coincidentally I’m scheduled for “B” service at my dealer tomorrow and he happens to have the replacement on hand.

I just thought someone might appreciate a heads up.

I also have service due on my rig. You just reminded me to inquire about the airbag with my MB service writer.
Thank you!

Takata airbag recall

I received that notice too on a 2016 RV (2015 model year Sprinter). I will have the air bag replaced with the upcoming oil change.

Agreed - big safety hazard. The issue on the endless Takata recalls has been getting parts and MB dealers apparently have them so go right away.

I got my notice today. I had my 2016 Sprinter (2017 RV) into my MB dealer last week for “B” service. The service advisor told me about the recall, but they did not have parts at that time. I will check back in a month or two.

I scheduled my appointment today for next week. They said the part is available, but they would have to order it. Also said it takes about a half hour to change.

I'm waiting for Takata to just throw in the towel and file for bankruptcy over their air bag issues.

From what I've been able to find so far neither of my vehicles have their airbags.

How long has this issue been going on now?

for a very long time and its not over yet, they figure maybe by 2023, takata did file bankruptcy, its like a grenade, metal everywhere, the manufacture I work for will pay to have your car towed if your afraid to drive it to a dealer for replacement, so if you know anyone with this open recall have it done as soon as possible, it might save there life

I have had both of mine replaced on my 2013 Sprinter chassis. One about 6 months ago and the other last month. it was easy to get an appointment and took an hour for each.

I would call Subaru customer service and complain, this is a bad situation, like I said in my other post some people got a car to drive for a few months for free until their bag was replaced, that appointment is ridiculous,CALL AND COMPLAIN

One of the big problems with the Takata recall is that the auto industy had pretty much put all their eggs in one basket. Takata was/are responsible for the production of such a large percentage of all the airbags that if they shut down there would not be enough capacity worldwide to keep up.

It is more of an issue in hot, high humid climates due to corrosion. The US government has determined which bags would be replaced and when based on the climate that the vehicle is registered in. So it is possible that your friend in Fl has already had theirs done while the recall on your identical vehicle in Minnesota is not even active yet

We received notification from Mercedes USA last week also. I was surprised since our other cars were done long ago. It states the recall covers model year 2015-2017 models. The recall campaign number is #2017030012 in case someone hasn't received this notice and wants to check their vehicle.
