I guess there’s a reason Jeeps are so popular as toads. I installed a Blue Ox baseplate, installed the two cables for the brakes, then the wiring to the tail lights and was finished before noon. Hooked to the Ready Brute tow bar and all road tested fine.
Hint: It takes less than a minute to remove the left front fender on the Jeep...two minutes to reinstall. Opens up the entire left side of the engine compartment to get access to the work area. Probably reduces install time by at least 30 minutes.
If installing the baseplate yourself, follow the written instructions and torque all fasteners to specified values. If you do that you will have the equivalent of a dealer installed device and save yourself a grand. I have installed baseplates on two of my cars without any assistance. A 1999 Malibu and a 2013 Smart car. No problems whatsoever.
My son installed the Blue Ox baseplate and the Hopkins rear light wiring on our '06 Liberty. I use a NSA Ready Brake with a Blue Ox Alpha tow bar. I installed all the braking cabling myself for the Ready Brake. Have no idea how much I saved, but by reading other posts, I would say at least $1000. All I had to do is feed my son. [emoji1787]
Haven't had any issues in the 3 years we've been using this set up.

Just a quick update, went with the Roadmaster, very clean look once the bar is removed from the car. Todd's RV and Auto repair did the install in Portland, class act and very professional. Here is a quick picture I took, not the best, it was getting dark.
