Is this NORMAL? 2 Black tanks, but??

Newbie to this forum and RV's. 2019 Forest River 324A13 Vengeance Rogue toy hauler with 1-1/2 bath and 2 Black tanks to drain.

QUESTION: if we're only using the front bathroom, does it share the same black tank drain somehow? Meaning, will (or can) the front black tank overflow into the rear tank?

We noticed a smell coming from the rear toilet and found it was backing up even though we do NOT use it! We emptied the rear black flush, but...

Physically we're not able to flush the front as often. Is this supposed to happen? Maybe the 2 lines are connected? Or is this a defect of some sort?

Very confused. Thank you!!

Moved thread from the General TT/5th Wheel Discussion section to the Toyhauler section's Vengeance sub-forum since the OP is asking for model-specific information and they own a Toyhauler.

I doubt if the 2 are connected but it is possible.

Do you use the sink in the half bath? This probably shares the black tank. My guess would be this is why it filled.

Hi,

No. We don't use that restroom at all due to it having problems. We actually thought we'd emptied it (turned water off and could see the bottom) after it backed up when... it's a long story...

But no. We do not use it at all. We started noticing a smell and realized it was coming from there. When we looked in that commode we saw "it" and cannot understand why.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi,

I'm not sure if my reply went to you or not but...

No. We don't use that restroom at all. After dumping and thinking it was (we turned the water off, flushed and saw the bottom) we've not used.

Noticed smell coming from there and saw "stuff" in liquid form.??

Crazy and we've no clue.

Thank you!!

I do not know your rig so this is just a wild guess, do you have 2 black tank flush fittings or just 1? If just 1 is your back black tank filling up when you are flushing the front one? You could empty both black tanks close both valves and turn on the flush for a bit then open the rear tank and see if it had filled up from the flush.

Randi, just click the QUOTE button (not the Reply button) and the item you are referencing will appear in a cute little box, just like the one above.

Start your response on the line after the {/QUOTE} tag.

Hi Randi, welcome to the Forum. I suggest you contact Forest River technical support via their web-based contact form and ask for a simple drain line and holding tank diagram for your specific TT. Include year, model number, serial number in your request. This may help you determine if the tanks are connected and where the dump valves are. I made such a request to make sure only toilet water was going to the black tank in our Flagstaff TT and the tech staff at Forest River was quick to respond with the proper information, including a diagram. It's worth a shot for your TT.

Take the high road. It's usually less muddy.

Spend 20 minutes with some water and some food coloring and you can figure out which drain goes to which tank pretty easily.

After you empty the tanks, pour some colored water down one of your drains/toilet. Then check to see which tank it went into/comes out of.

Repeat with all drains. Done.

Crawl under?

There's always crawling around underneath (sheets of cardboard help a lot on a gravel driveway) with a headlight or flashlight and seeing what's there. Along with just walking around the side of the RV or trailer and making sure there aren't any overlooked drain fittings or valves.
