2015 2500. That being said, a rv dealer turned our wildcat to tight with our truck. They said no need to release the slider...cab dented, back window broken and nose of wildcat damaged. 3500.00 dollars later the employee was still saying "I've never done that before". My response was not quite that polite! A slider is essential in my opinion.

Short Bed Crew Cabs

Information about your question...

I have a 2000 Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab Short Bed

I installed a #4400 (20K) SuperGlide Sliding Hitch
Gross Trailer Weight (Maximum) 20,000 lbs.
Vertical Load Weight (Max. Pin Weight) 5,000 lbs.

I’ve pulled a
1998 Nu-Wa Snowbird Fifth Wheel Series M-32 RLBW
(10,000lbs. Dry weight) over 20,000 miles with no issues

and for the last 6 months (1000 miles) a 2015 Salem Hemisphere Lite 214RL
again with no issues (Dry Weight: 7139)

I would NOT pull a 5th Wheel in a Short Bed truck without a Sliding Hitch.

Just my 2 cents worth
Happy RV'ing,
Mike

We have no problems with our F250 and our 2016 Cardinal. We have a Goosebox hitch.

F250 w/slider

I have an F250 Platinum 4x4 with 6.7L turbo diesel. My 5th wheel hitch is a Demco 18K AutoSlider. I tow a 42' 377FLK Sierra. I added rear air bags and run 45psi when hitched.

The slider is the only way to go. When the truck is 90 degrees to the trailer, there is approx. 8" of clearance between the Cab and the nose of the trailer. With the hitch being automatic you don't have to get out of the truck to release the slider to make tight turns.

I have been towing with this setup for the past 2 years. The only problem I have had is if I don't set the cruse control I will be running over 80!

I've been schooled :)

Thanks TONS to all of you nice folks for the help with this. I've learned a lot. I've got lots of experience towing but never this heavy or w/a fifth-wheel. I never thought to consider the pin weight might be an issue. That second sticker that gives the actual payload was down lower on my truck and not as obvious as the picture one gentleman posted. It says 2145lbs which on the face of it will be an issue with all but one of the models I've been eyeballing. I am planning to load a 1500lb OHV in the back of it. I am wondering if that might lighten the pin weight enough? I think what we may do is buy the Camper we want, load my gear up and go to the scales...if it is overweight, then go to the Ford Dealer I might get lucky...or is the listed pin weight what johnny-law is gonna worry about? As others have said, I'm sure this truck could handle any of them but I don't want to end up in jail if there is an accident.

I have the same truck and pull a 2016 3250RL Cardinal fifth wheel with the Demco 18K autoslider HiJacker fifth wheel hitch. I have been in several places where the autoslider has saved the day and very pleased with the hitch.

payload is a bogus number for 3/4 tons. they are all limited to 10,000lbs by DOT. just make sure you are not over on your rear axle weight rating and that your tires can handle the weight as well.

It's almost impossible to get the CCC (carrying weight) from the dealer because every option you get lowers it. There are thousands of CCC weights for the Super Duty trucks.

My F350 diesel, lariat, 4x4 has 3,400 pounds, so pulling my 34 ft fiver is close. Remember you need to add weight of hitch, people etc.

This is incorrect at the federal level. However, some states may have this requirement. Ford offers a 10,000 GVW derate option for that purpose. With that option, you are correct that the payload number is artificially low.

IIRC, The normal GVW was 11,500 for the 350 short bed crew cab in the old model. Haven't checked the numbers on the 2017+.

In Texas a GVW greater than 10k requires a Commercial Drivers License

Do you have an official Texas gov link to back that up?

Mine is a 2017 F-250 Lariat with a 6.75 bed.
I have a manual slider hitch that hasn't been slid during use. Ever.
It was in my last three 6.5 bed trucks prior to this one (4 different 5th wheels) and never slid in those either.

Love the Anderson gooseneck to 5th wheel hitch that is off set for short bed and is rated for up to 24,000 lbs with 4500 lbs tongue weight. To use this Anderson hitch, I added B&W gooseneck ball in bed of my F350. No grease, easy hook up, great ride. Only drawback is the adapter on 5th wheel pin that I take off when leaving camper at dealer.

Go to the ford dealer and see about changing the rear leaf springs to the F350 ones. The rest of the truck is the same as the F350. That would make your payload higher.
