Rx's and full-timing

I know we have many full-timers here. How do y'all deal with re-filling prescriptions when you're on the road?

I don't have anything exotic, just the usual old-folk stuff - - blood pressure, cholesterol, A1C stuff - but what happens when you need a re-fill and you're 2,000 miles away from "home". What about if you happen to be in Canada?

tried mail order for a while, but was not convenient, they would deliver to where ever we where, but sometimes that meant us waiting extra days there until delivery was made, ... changed to Walmart, with WM our pharmacy is nearby no matter where we are, ... and prices are as good or better than anyone else, ...

If you use one of the huge chain pharmacies like Walmart, CVS, Walgreen's, etc, it's merely a matter of them transferring your prescription around their system so you can get it refilled at any of their locations. Just allow extra time so their "system" can get it done.

Might even require an extra day's stay in order for the refill to be processed if you are on the move. Not so bad if you've "anchored" for a while.

According to my Dr's office they'll fax renewal prescriptions to any legitimate pharmacy no matter how small.

The Part D that we seem to have to change every year has a "preferred pharmacy" chain. But it's always either Walgreens or CVS. Last year Walgreens. This year CVS.

We just went into CVS, gave them the new cards, and they entered them into the system. Then if prescriptions have any refills left, they transfer them. If not, you have to call Doc and tell them to use the NEW Pharmacy.

After that folderol is over, it's simply a matter of walking into any CVS on Earth and asking them to fill Prescription XYZ that they have on file at any CVS.

That said........I am going to have to figure out how to change mine from Caremark to Express Scripts for mail order prescriptions.

I'm going on 4 years of full time using WM. Not where I want to go, but it's convenient and the best price for me. My Dr. renews my prescriptions once per year so I'm able to get refills once every 3 months (the 90 day thing). Lots of places I go don't have a WM but just have to route through a town that does. My GPS lists all the WM. When I was in Canada 2 years ago I just made sure I had enough to keep me going - there ARE WM but I wasn't sure about the pharmacy rules. No one even asked about prescriptions when I crossed the border.

Twice they have had issues and not done things correctly, but overall it's been a solution I can live with. Called my Dr. office (or went to MyChart on line) and got things organized, so all was well. Reason for mentioning this is sometimes it might take a day or two to straighten out, so try to be flexible.

Good travels!

Walmart pharmacy. Transfer at your location,,there ,and you are done . You have to transfer back if you go home or relocate or they refill at last transfered location. Always worked for my travels.

If you participate and pay for Case Managment call and have the nurse call in your refill at the location you want it sent to. Dont wait for the walmart pharmacy to call your doctors office. I always call Case Management for any type of matters for dealings with outside of office needs.
