Alternatives for food disposal
Hey all,
What are you doing with your food that's liquid, like soups or such that can't be put down the drains? Anyone got any ideas you can share? We are on a private pad, so not much other than pouring it into compost bags, but hoping you guys have better ideas.
Thanks!
Darren

Inexpensive plastic containers with snap lids can be had for a buck or two at Dollar stores cheap enough to be thrown out.
My DW saves plastic lunch meat containers just for this purpose so our cost for the containers is nothing.
We also use better quality zip lock bags (that won't easily open) to dispose of liquid waste.

soups etc with fat / oils
put in fridge overnight and scrape off the layer of now solidified fat
I use paper towel to wrap the solids and dispose in the trash
paper towel to scrape out fats in frying pan too..
compost bag...... NO FAT ALLOWED
do not dump fats / oils except into proper trash cans on the way home

What's that mean? If there's a sewer connection everything goes down there and gets digested in the system or septic tank. If there's no waste collection on site is there a "dump site" fairly handy? Our favorite holiday weekend campsite is electric only so I tow a waste tank full of grey water (which includes kitchen waste) to the dumpsite every morning after breakfast and showers and back haul fresh water in a 35 gallon water tank in the back of the truck.

That'll work!
We often freeze the leftover liquid to make it easier to dispose of. Of course, we usually use heavy plastic bags.
Taking the lid off a soda can makes is easier to cool down the liquid before disposal.

X2. Liquids are treated as sewage, just like home. Solids go in the trash and then a trip to the bear-proof dumpster.
