White drain cap

See attached photo.
I assume I'm correct in purchasing a drain cap and putting on this drain spout?
Every time I tried to fill my fresh water tank it would trickle out of this drain until it emptied my tank.
I presume there was a cap on it but either came off during my trip home or never had a cap to begin with? - but assume it's ok to put a cap on this threaded spout?
And what exactly is this threaded spout called?
Is it some sort of overflow drain?
I just want to make sure by closing this drain I'm not doing any damage?
This a 2021 16.8 NOBO I picked up on 12-23-20.
Thank you for help.

Not the best pic, but it looks like your fresh water tank drain. There are typically 3 drains, hot and cold water low points (usually red and blue pipes) and the fresh water drain. Many people replace all three caps with valves so it is easier to drain the lines, which is done periodically, especially when winterizing the trailer. When you sanitize or winterize the water system , you'll be emptying water from all 3 locations. It's a good idea to keep a couple spare caps in case you crack or lose one when you are traveling.

This is fresh water drain, and you are correct in thinking that a cap is the correct solution.

I added a 3/4 ball valve on mine for ease of use.

Because I picked ours up during winter time, it was winterized and the dealer placed the cap in the water heater compartment.

Had the same issue with my 19.3 when I first purchased. Found my cap in the pack of manuals that came with my rig.

If you have to buy a cap, make sure you don't purchase a nylon cap. My dealer put a nylon cap on mine and we took a trip on 25 miles of dirt road to a boondocking campsite. Turned on the pump and a little water spurted out, but then nothing. A rock hit the nylon cap and cracked it.
You need one of these. Zurn QTC3FQP
They have a internal gasket that seals well.
I purchased mine on Amazon, but their out of stock now.

A lot of people remove those caps when they Winterize. I use Teflon tape on the threads.

if it is the fresh tank over flow you do not want to cap it while filling the tank. I added a cap to my over flow to stop siphon effect once full.

? The freshwater overflow is the fresh fill port, when full water gushes out. Capped lines on bottom are drains.
