High mileage

Hi all, We are considering adding a class b van for a long trip out west. Maybe 6 months or so. I looked on RV Trader and some vans were asking 40-50k and over 100k milage. Is that normal? thx...

Well that depends. How old were these units?

Remember, Class B units usually have more mileage than other RVs because they’re the smallest for more driving than camping.

thx, most were older models 2006 on down. But on a Class B forum, they were worried about the milage.

Personally on a 2006 a 100K is nothing (actually very very low milage) . I would say normal milage would be 200K. Even that is low.

We trade vehicles at 300K usually...... I would not hesitate buying a 100K class B if the owner can show good maintenance.

So, 100k mileage for an 18 year old vehicle equals just over 5k per year.
If I saw a good condition vehicle that’s of interest to me with only that mileage per year, I’d say it certainly wasn’t used much at all. I’d be concerned about parts that weren’t lubricated properly and may fail due to dry rot.
It’s certainly not a high mileage vehicle over that many years. Can you see any maintenance records?

The price seems a bit high to me but really depends on the rv.
You can get a new one for around $100,000 on sale from some companies, but you can pay up to $200,000+ for the 'higher end' models.

If it were me and I was going to be traveling out west for 6 months, I'd look for a lower mileage and newer vehicle with an acceptable floor plan.

Mileage is only part of the picture. A record of maintenance (oil changes etc) goes a long way towards offsetting the mileage.
