I was just notified that NC State Parks are shutting down until currently April 2nd. Not sure if someone posted that already but just got the email a few minutes ago.

Read an interesting article on Fox news.
https://www.foxnews.com/us/when-will...ning-the-curve
In a nutshell:
Since there currently is no vaccine for this virus that if "unchecked" by people disregarding the guidelines that have been put forth the death rate statistically in the US could hit 2million.
That is a big number!

That link had an interview with the surgeon general. I would think he doesn't make stuff up.

Research how a surgeon general is appointed and who they answer to. He is basically a mouthpiece for administrative policies regarding health issues.
If you fully believe in anything anybody at that level says, regardless of party, you will be disappointed.

We had 6 days reserved a year in advance at 2 Florida state parks for April that are now a no go due to the closing. Here is what is posted on the web page about refunds.
Cancellations & Hours of Operation
The safety and welfare of our employees and the public we serve are of top priority to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). As we continue to monitor the latest guidance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), DEP is taking proactive measures and preventative actions to protect visitors, staff and volunteers.
Currently Florida State Parks remain open for day use, however all Florida State Parks have changed day-use visitation hours to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Additionally, DEP is cancelling all events, activities, special event reservations, pavilion rentals and overnight reservations at Florida State Parks for the next 60 days.
Existing overnight camping and cabin reservations that begin Wednesday, March 18, will be honored. Visitors must arrive prior to 5 p.m. on March 18, to secure their reservation. After Wednesday, all reservations moving forward will be cancelled and refunded. Beginning Friday, March 20, campgrounds and all overnight accommodations will be fully closed.
ReserveAmerica, the Florida State Parks partner in camping reservations, will reach out to all affected parties to refund camping reservations. ReserveAmerica can also be reached directly at 1-800-326-3521 or TDD 888-433-0287 if visitors have questions or need to modify existing reservations.

On last night's evening news it was announced that Tennessee State Parks will remain OPEN until further notice. The website indicates that park-hosted events have been cancelled but all camping facilities are available.

Washington State Parks
https://www.parks.state.wa.us/1177/N...rus---COVID-19
Novel coronavirus – COVID 19 message
March 16, 2020
State parks and camping remain open. In response to Gov. Inslee’s mandate, we are making the following changes to operations through April 30:
- Visitor and interpretive centers are closed.
- Most special activities and special permits are cancelled.
- Planned programming is cancelled.
- Group camp and group reservations such as picnic shelters are restricted.
We are taking additional measures to limit visitor and staff interactions at offices and at registration. This includes:
- Using drive-up/walk-up windows when possible.
- Limiting the number of visitors in an office.
- Providing electronic options for purchasing passes and making reservations.
- Using automated pay stations, where available.
We ask that all visitors exhibit personal responsibility and take steps to protect their health and the health of others.
As the situation changes, we will continue to follow the governor and public health officials’ guidance when it comes to managing our park system.
Take care!

Florida State Parks;
Out of an abundance of caution, all events, activities, special event reservations, pavilion rentals and camping/cabin reservations at Florida State Parks have been canceled for the next 60 days. Florida State Parks remain open for day use; however, hours of operation have been reduced to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

That works until the political powers decide to go to greater extremes than the health community advises.
I think the big issue with the US/Canadian border is the fact that our economies are so intertwined.
Where I live there is a continuous stream of "commerce" in the form of trucks hauling things from the port in Vancouver BC south and trucks hauling things North from the ports in Seattle and Tacoma.
Also the number of Canadians that travel South to do their shopping on this side of the border due to price differences.
If you watch the border crossings every day is like rush hour in a large city going both directions.
It is sort of a "rock and a hard place" decision for both communities. The health advisers want to make sure that everything that can be done is done and the political forces feel the same but have the additional worry that their individual country's economy will be severely harmed.
For the record, this health crisis is going to be one heck of an economic crisis in short order. Has anyone noticed the requests of the federal government to provide financial aid to business of all sizes due to the disruption?
Not only are workers that are sent home going to suffer financially but large manufacturers and other corporations that rely on borrowing money to produce their product may not be able to pay their bills.
Locally we saw the effect of the Boeing 737 Max slow/shut down. Boeing isn't collecting any money from customers on all their new, grounded planes they can't deliver. Initially banks agreed to financing packages but now, with the health crisis added on top, Boeing is in need of financial assistance from the government as well as all the airlines that have been impacted by the downturn in travel.
Now add the Cruise Lines, Travel Agents, Resorts, and the rest of the list that's getting longer by the hour.
To those that say this is all a bunch of "over reaction BS", I hope things work out well for you. Believe what you want but the rest of the world is sitting up and taking note.

There is a lot of truth in the saying, "...to each, his own..".
Some invest in the market, or in real-estate, or are savvy savers, or a combination of these and other methods.
My wife and I started investing in our late 20's, and have done extremely well in the broader stock market. Well enough that we're considering retiring in a couple of years (when we reach 55), and do a lot more camping (no more cruises for a long time )
Yes, a portion of our portfolio has taken a hit over the past month, but we're not panicked, nor lost any sleep. In fact, we've been preparing for this market opportunity since mid-2019 (when I moved 50% of our portfolio to cash). We will now (and in the months to come) be taking advantage of these market lows as we did in 2000 and 2009.
Stay safe everyone!

It finally has affected us
Wife and I traveled from Middle Georgia to Charleston SC Got here on Monday. Went downtown to dinner last night. Today the SC Governor directed all restauarants to close after 5 PM today til further notice (or end of March I think). Tourist attractions etc Im sure will also be shut down, if not already.
We were going to hang out here at the campground but decided tomorrow morning we will head home. We have our grandkids (they live with us) and they are staying with their other grandmother while we are gone. Just feel better at this point we should be home with them, and deal with everything this point forward together.
Everything is shut down here at the campground (on Charleston AFB). All the groceries stores are rapidly running out of more than just TP. Meat department is bare unless you want pigs knuckles.
We have enough provisions to make it through our stay, but just feel it's better at this point.
Alas, on our way home tomorrow.
Everyone stay safe,.
Mike

Same here. The plan was to stay for at least a week or more in Albuquerque NM at the Route 66 Casino as they said they were staying open and it's a very nice RV park. Why go home and have to sit in the house as everything is closed at home.
Casino just announced they are closing at 4am tomorrow morning but the RV park will stay open for the time being.
Dammit. Might as well go home in the morning.

This is a very sobering post from a fb friend today.
She writes:
This photo was taken late in 2019. As his cancer continues to progress, my greatest fear right now is that Dave is going to need urgent medical care and our local hospitals won’t have the resources for him. What if they put him at the bottom of the priority list because he’s already terminally ill? I’ve worked in emergency medicine, I understand mass casualty triage, and I know that the people most likely to recover are the ones who get care. It’s terrifying to not be in that camp. I know there is a lot of noise out in the world right now, but I just wanted to thank the people who are taking this seriously, staying safe/home, and hopefully freeing up resources for people like my sweet husband.

This is a very good read. Helps in understanding where we (the US) is right now. This can be very serious, or we can contain it before it runs wild like it is other locations like Italy.
https://www.statnews.com/2020/03/17/...reliable-data/
It is up to us, the community, on how this will be written in history.
Leave politics, personal thoughts, and "All US News Companies" out of it. Local news is always the best. And Google is your friend to verify truth from fake. Be safe, and do what you need to do to enjoy your life.
It is in all States, and we plan to Rv and fish this season as always, unless it is restricted by the State Parks. Be smart, be safe, and enjoy what freedoms you have.

It is, the fish don't care. And I am never within 6' of anyone but my wife when on the boat. Well the dog too, but he won't have it. When we camp, we stay far from all the crazy, like to be all by ourselves. That is why we RV.
