California issues “stay at home”

The first state to issue the order to stay at home.....

Priorities are in the making

Here in Texas...
We don't have a shelter in place order, but bars and restaurants (other than takeout) are closed. Malls and retail stores announced that they are closed. Movie theaters are closed. Gatherings of 10 or more are not allowed. People are working from home.
.... and they strongly suggest that you practice 'social distancing'. Also, those over 70 advised to stay home.

Might as well shelter in place. No where else to go.

Just a reminder. Shelter in place is different than lockdown.

There is this little document called the constitution. The first amendment protects your right for peaceful assembly, the fourth protects you from an unlawful seizure. The CA governor’s order violates both.

I understand people need to be careful not to spread anything, but the government is being very overreaching through this whole mess.

Those so willing to trample the Constitution and give up liberty during this virus is scary. Millions have fought and died doing so to protect the liberty and freedom provided by the Constitution. Now it seems many will give it all up to save a fraction compared to those who died fighting for it. I do not want another person to die fighting for freedom or so we may have our liberty, however those deaths are part of what it takes to maintain the great Constittuional Liberty we have .😥

There are men and women who gave their lives for your freedom, so yes. I choose freedom. Freedom is what our country was founded on and what so many have fought for, been seriously injured for and died for. The moment you give up your rights all those sacrifices become useless. I won’t allow those sacrifices to be for nothing.

I won’t discount the virus needs to be addressed, but I will not allow my rights to be violated for the media to use this virus to push a certain agenda. Keep in mind, if you take an objective look at the numbers this virus has about a 98% survival rate.

Not sure if your post was meant to be funny. If not then it was ignorant. Nothing close to martial law.

People are being "asked" to stay home ... you have discounted the virus for the 2% of dead ..... rights are not being taken away only asking for people to do what is needed to save lives ... overreaction from many is the real danger ... I stand ready to defend my freedoms only when they are in danger of being taken away.

I do not understand the logic of having the general public shelter in place to control exposure, but some state are releasing prisoners from a controlled environment into the general public risking exposure of both the inmates and the public.

So if the entire population of the US gets infected then 6.6 million people die...

If staying home for a couple weeks and shutting down business as usual saves 1000's of lives then I'm okay with that. Those lives that are saved can then enjoy the freedoms you so clearly think you're losing.
Who knows next time this type of pandemic occurs maybe one of those saved lives will stay home and you won't get infected and possibly die.

Not funny, but also not ignorant either. After 26 years in law enforcement I think I know a little bit about human nature. When you tell a multitude of people by a written order that you are going to drastically disrupt their lives, the natural reaction of said multitude is to resist it. I am merely suggesting martial law could be applied in this instance, and that is the only thing that will curtail the consequences of issuing such an order in the first place. And yeah, the cops are gonna be busy. Californians are well aware of what can happen when cities go berserk out of desperation.

It's just my opinion anyway. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Yeah, I know they are like axxxxxxs, everybody's got one.

It still is a free country. Doubt it? Look at the measures taken in China to control the outbreak. Some involved some rather severe physical force.

As a result though, China reported no new cases of Covid19 one day this week and since yesterday at midnight only 3 more deaths. 13 deaths since midnight GMT+0 here in the US.

Comparing Italy and China, China has twice the number of cases than Italy but Italy has twice the fatality rate. Italy just surpassed China in the number of deaths.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

As for the US numbers, one might conclude that the number of cases is extremely low due to the lack of testing. How many more people are wandering around with the virus and haven't shown symptoms yet or have symptoms so mild they just write them off as the usual "sniffles" or "allergies"? The scary part is what could happen in the next 14 day "incubation period".

Infectious diseases are indiscriminate. They get spread by just about anyone and sometimes it's necessary to impose restrictions on society when they don't behave responsibly on their own.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Ben Franklin. I’m torn on this issue because I firmly believe the essence of that quote and do not enjoy government interference into our lives, but do we really think that there are nefarious motives of government overreach or sincere concern of the safety its citizenry? My honest opinion is they are grasping at straws and out of fear, they are, after all politicians. Under react and there will be heck to pay. I have elderly parents and DW and I fall into the high risk category as well, I’m back and forth on what’s an over reaction and what is not, I’m betting I’m not alone.
