Pullman Hospital

Local hospital here announced 25% pay reduction for all. What happens when America loses its mind. Wa and California proudly announced they were sending ventilators and equipment to New York. NY[Cuomo} announced on Fox[same day] they were awash in ventilators, gowns.masks

A little national leadership and coordination might not be a bad thing...

National leadership is not something that can be switched on and switched off depending on the times.

In ordinary times it seems like the last thing states want is "national leadership".

Goes all the way down "into the trenches". Ask any police officer how much involvement they want by the FBI for an example.

It's just the way this country is "built".

FWIW, there are at best estimate (yes, estimate as it's hard to count) there are 457 agencies in the US all in charge of something. So many in fact it's hard to figure out who's really in charge of anything.

I don't want this to be construed as a political statement as I'm merely looking at it as if I were looking at a large business with way too many "departments/divisions" operating semi-autonomously.

Trump followed up the public health emergency that was declared on January 31, 2020, with a full national emergency on March 13. This by law puts FEMA in overall charge of the response to Covid-19 including allocation of resources, quarantines, etc.

Just the facts, you can have your own opinions whether that is happening.

I used to have a boss who when one of his underlings brought him a problem/complaint, used to say "do not bring me a problem without at least three possible solutions.

Cut the traffic at his door to almost nothing and funny thing, most problems just got solved down at lower levels.

Sounds like one of his underlings should have been the boss

In an attempt to get this Thread at least semi on track, I'm doing my best to keep medical professionals employed. Had a CAT scan this morning at my pulmonary doctor's office. They had me come to their parking lot and called me on my cell and had me come direct to the exam room. I'll teleconference with the Dr. on Friday.
Then, on 4/23 I'll have another CAT scan (how lucky am I? LOL) at my vascular place.
Point being, I am able to get in for any needed testing.

My daughter works at a hospital and it is a ghost town and they are being asked to take time off. No pandemic and no other 'business'.....

All hospitals in the town where I live also report very few patients.

The 'talk' in the county/state, is that more people are dying here of suicide than the flu.

As pointed out before...

Admins. if you wish to delete this, that is fine with me, I understand.

If this is in reference to my post about underlings, my bad. I actually was just making a humorous response to the other members post. Guess I failed.

Well said. Some “elective” procedure can become more serious if postponed too long. However, being in healthcare, I understand the reasoning. You don’t want to expose people anymore than necessary. I’m not sure what will happen long term. I suspect once more PPE and testing is available there will be measures to isolate COVID patients as much as possible and prioritization of outpatient procedures

A good example how we could stay open for business ... nothing will be the same as it was ... the idea of simple or convenient heeds to be replaced with safe and getting it done ... best luck to all

The entire health care industry is all about the MONEY, especially on the administrative level but also includes the health care equipment industry, medicine and the health care insurance industry.

There's a lot of "behind the scene" employees at hospitals and clinics getting furloughed. My wife has worked for 35 years at a large Medical Clinic doing insurance certification: which involves making sure your insurance company will give you the coverage that you pay for. With the lack of elective surgeries being done her dept was reduced from six to my wife and one other worker.
Lots of other positions have been furloughed besides her dept.

Oregon's lifting the ban on non emergency procedures May 1st. That should help our hospitals and clinics.

I wrote a long rant and erased it ... balancing risk with opening back up will be nearly impossible ... just have to start and stop the "What If" deal with the What If when it happens .... later Frank

Thank you! As a furloughed hospital employee- as far as myself and all of my family are concerned- from local to national- our country is doing a pretty damn good job.

I find it odd with so many hospitals saying they have very few patients, some a little as 1% occupancy for the # of available beds ....... and yet the gov't is sitting up 'tent hospitals' or facilities in existing large structures at a taxpayer expense in the billions of dollars. Those "temporary" facilities will also cost billions of dollars to disassemble and tens of millions of dollars in equipment/supplies will be stolen or tossed in the end.
ANYONE that has been in the military knows this.

I don't think any new temp hospitals are being set up right now. It was done in the beginning because we didn't know to what extent social distancing and stay at home would work. It worked well because most of what was set up wasn't needed. Had nothing been implemented they most likely would've been fully used.
Better to be safe than sorry.
