How many "dirty" things do we touch every day?

Certainly the idea of picking up "germs" is a hot topic today and there is another active topic discussing a specific threat.

I just thought that this might be an interesting topic to create awareness on how many places we pick up germs on an everyday bases and for the most part give little or no thought to them.

Here's a list of 10 most common places we pick up germs as listed an internet site. Interestingly, 9 of the 10 things are most often right in our house:

Money
Light Switch
Computer Keyboard
Cell Phone
Toilet Seat
Shopping Cart
Remote Control
Bathtub
Kitchen Sink
Kitchen Sponge

Now how about the things we encounter every day where we all "share germs" with members of the public?

Door hardware (knobs, pull handles, etc)
ATM's
Gas Pumps

I'll let you add your own from here------

If nothing else this should strengthen the case for washing hands, using hand sanitizer, and not touching your face year around, not just during cold/flu/etc season.

Adults are freaking out. I blame the media and social networking. When the HiN1 virus broke out in 2009 there were over 1,600,000 cases and death rate of 17.4%. The coronavirus deaths are mostly people in the 70's or 80's in poor health and the death rate is 1% No cases reported of children and look at their habits.

Blame who you want but don’t people in their 70’s and 80’s matter to you?
It’s a little early for you to be predicting the death rate to only be 1% when the medical experts are predicting it to be much higher.

Let’s all do our part and wash our hands excessively and keep our distance from each other until this is under control.

I am in the "at risk" group, but I do blame mainstream and social media for the absurd hysteria about this virus. At what point do we return to normal? What happens with the newcoronavirus or the mightbethesameasacoronavirus in the future.

If SARS or H1N1 or other viruses were so critical, why are we not all vaccinated each year for each of them?

Viruses happen. Life adapts. God prevails!

Wash your hands, don't go to work/school if you are sick, and let us move on.

Depends on the experts you listen to. I’m with GL on this one. It’s blown out of proportion by the media. Of course older people matter. Just take precautions.

we get allot of germs from money I was hoping to get more! I'm in the risk group and I'm not changing my habits with the exception of a little more thought to washing my hands even tho they aren't dirty.

I’m a plumber, but my hands are probably cleaner than most people’s due to how often I clean them.

I still won’t eat the last bite of a sandwich, though.

For years I have used gloves at gas pumps. And since I got terribly sick from eating at a buffet years ago while in GA for work I haven't eaten at a buffet since.

I'm between a rock and a hard place, i travel for work every (flying) i just have to continue what i always do, don't touch anything in airports, wash hands often and hope for the best.

I used to ride BART to work in the SF Bay Area. You get sick just stepping aboard but you eventually acquire immunity to that nasty germ infested train.
BART is now suffering a 37% loss of ridership.

I work at a golf course during the summer inside taking people's money. A drug test is required but I have questioned that policy for now as I don't want to walk into a facility with a higher probability rate. Otherwise we are going about our daily normal activities.

Are you concerned handing the money will cause you to test positive for drugs or are you meaning because of the number of folks using the drug lab put you at higher risk of getting this virus?

The number of people using the lab. I've seen them come in for illnesses along with the drug test.

The same flu vaccine that protects against seasonal flu also protects against the H1N1 swine flu strain.

Also it only had a fatality rate of about 0.01-0.08%, which is about the same as the regular flu.

The rate for the corona virus so far is closer to 2 or 3% and we don't have a vaccine yet.

X2! In this modern day and age, we live "too clean". Many do not let their bodies obtain an exposure to elements of life. If your body is not exposed to anything your body can not build anti-bodies to bolster your immune system. How many of us drank from a garden hose when we were kids? Today, we have to have an approved water hose for our RV's. How many of us as kids recall a bottle of "hand sanitizer"???

While I totally understand your point and agree, the garden hose example is not the best. I believe we are not to drink from a standard garden hose because of lead and other toxic chemicals leaching from the hose material. Lead is not something we could build up an immunity to.

Having played in the dirt and walked barefoot in the creek as a kid, and later worked on a cattle farm, I’d like to think I’ve built a strong immune system.
