Masks being required in all National Parks regardless of Vaccination status
This may already be posted here but we found out on our trip to Yellowstone last week that masks are being required in all public buildings and in "crowded outdoor spaces" regardless of vaccination status.
"the National Park Service (NPS) is immediately requiring visitors, employees and contractors to wear a mask inside all NPS buildings and in crowded outdoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status or community transmission levels."
Some of the buildings, such as the Yellowstone Lodge had someone handing out masks at the entrance but some, such as gift shops, did not. So if you are planning to go into any of the buildings, you will need to be prepared.
We did notice that in the large crowd gathered outside to watch Old Faithful erupt, there were not many people wearing masks and no one was asking people to wear masks in that outdoor setting.

This has been in effect for over a month for all Federal buildings and properties. At first, all un-vaccinated persons were required to wear masks. Now it's everyone, vaccinated or not.

I now have a collection of about 15 different masks, and two or three in every vehicle.
Here's how I feel about the mask thing, I general don't think they do much good, especially since I have all my shots. So, when we are camping next to someone, or sitting next to someone at an event or like at a movie, or they are coming to do something at my house, like a plumber...I just tell them:
I've had all my shots. I am not a real big "mask person". So if you want to relax your mask and are OK with me relaxing mine, I'm good with that. If you are not comfortable with that, then I understand and I can respect that and I'll keep mine on. It's just no big deal either way, but I want us both to be able to be comfortable with no issues.
About the only time I ever said anything at all was at a WalMart in a nearby town. They were requiring everyone to wear a mask at the time and only unvaccinated people were actually required to. They asked me to put on a mask at the door and I simply said, no thank you, I'll just go to the Lebanon Walmart and left and that was it.

I personally don't care a flip about being required to wear a mask indoors anywhere. I have a collection but usually wear a Cowboys mask and my wife wears a Raiders mask. We get lots of comments
We are mask prepared when required, or when we feel it is prudent.
I do think a lot of the covid requirements are theater, like you have to wear one into a restaurant, but as soon as you sit down you are safe and can take it off. Whatever.
But then there are times when I find myself in an indoor crowd where folks are hacking and coughing and wearing my mask does give me a sense of safety. Warranted? Only time will tell.....
Outside, the mask is quickly off. It's still too damn hot down here to wear one outside for long

I now keep a mask inside my hat. Since I'm wearing my hat does that mean I'm also wearing my mask?
Seriously, without actually requiring one to show VALID proof they've been vaccinated the only way to really make sure unvaccinated persons are wearing masks is to require ALL to wear masks.
Expect more "mandates" for both vaccinations and masks. Hospitalizations and deaths are increasing so expect government to step in and do what's necessary in what is truly a health emergency.
So far voluntary steps have fallen short and it's estimated that 1 out of 500 in our population has been hospitalized ( per this evenings news.).

Too many people don't consider the fact that masks are not all about protecting the wearer from getting covid. They are to help reduce the SPREAD of covid to others. Don't want to wear a mask because you're OK with getting covid? That's fine. But please; don't go anywhere other people are and possibly spread it to them. This disease is highly contagious. I just buried my dad because someone didn't figure this out...
Do it to help others. Be kind.

If my math is correct, that’s a .2% death rate. So I have a 99.8% chance of surviving if I catch it. [emoji849]

You're right. I got the "category mixed. Ratio for merely contracting Covid is more like 1:7

My Son used the same logic when he said he wasn't going to get vaccinated.
Both he and his girlfriend contracted Covid and both now wish they'd been vaccinated. Instead of taking 30 minutes out of his day to get a FREE shot in the arm he instead spent two miserable weeks trying to get back enough strength to go back to work. His girlfriend is still trying to recover from the effects. Luckily neither needed hospitalization.

That would only be true if 100% of the population had caught COVID.
COVID is the #2 cause of death in the US, behind heart disease. Think that the numbers are inflated? If you assume that 1/2 of the deaths blamed on Covid are actually something else it only slips to the #3 position behind heart disease and ALL cancers. (If you break up cancers into different types I think Covid stays at #2 even if half the cases are fake, I am not sure on that one since I don’t have the breakdown of deaths by type of cancer in front of me)

I have been fully vaccinated since early April. I have young children in my home who are not yet eligible to be vaccinated so I voluntarily wear a mask whenever I leave my home and go anywhere indoors. Even though my odds of surviving COVID are pretty good I don't want to risk bringing it home.
I've lost count of how many news stories I've read about unvaccinated people catching COVID and begging hospital staff for the vaccine when it is too late.
Millions of people nationwide have taken the vaccine and except for feeling a little under the weather the day after, very few side effects. Please don't let me read about you or someone you care about being in the hospital struggling to breathe and begging for the vaccine once it's to late. This tragedy is completely avoidable.
It wasn't from COVID but I got a front row seat as I watched my wife die in a hospital bed struggling to breathe. Trust me when I say, this is not something you want to witness for yourself.

I'm a respiratory therapist and work in ICU, it's full of unvaccinated people most are between 30 and 60 years old, much younger and sicker than the first round of covid. We've had a small number of vaccinated breakthroughs that are very sick. It's depressing working in ICU, the people that get it bad just don't improve no matter what, regardless of age. I wear a mask around people, it's not that hard to do. Out doors with some space it's not needed. I recommend a real surgical mask for actual protection, N95 is way better if you can get one.

Even if you are vaccinated, you can still get Covid. If you get Covid and are vaccinated you still shed some viruses (though not nearly as many compared to someone unvaccinated). The scary part is that the viruses that you do shed are the ones that were more successful at defeating the vaccine. So if you are vaccinated and you get Covid, now you are spreading vaccine resistant Covid. Add to that the fact that the vaccine reduces the severity of your symptoms and you could be infected and not even know it. Please wear your masks and get vaccinated and follow reasonable precautions.

Based on my observations almost nobody is wearing N95 masks around here. A hodgepodge of neck gaiters, designer masks made from unknown materials, and the usual disposable masks that have been used around hospitals for decades. The disposables don't seem to seal well around one's face very well and even less when worn where it's not covering the nose.
Makes one wonder just how effective mask wearing really is.

And here's one thing about that. I have a couple of favorite masks that I wear. They have the adjusters on the elastic ear loops and the metal bands in the nose bridge. I can get a pretty good seal so my glasses don't fog up too bad.
When I go to the doctor or hospital for tests they insist I wear one of their disposables. The elastic bands are so loose, the mask will hardly sit over my nose on it's own! No matter how tightly I pinch the flimsy whatever substance is in the nose bridge, my glasses still fog up immediately and I have to take my glasses off.
So tell my how their one size fits none paper towel is better than my nearly custom fit mask? "Oh, well you can just wear our paper mask over your mask" they say. Nope. Sorry. I'm not going to play that game. You "experts" are telling me that your paper towel on a string is better than my mask, so who am I to argue? I wonder what they would say if I wore my half-face HEPA filter fit tested respirator? Nope- sorry, it's not one of our paper towels on a string, take it off!

There is value to not needing to argue with people about the effectiveness of their specific mask. Your mask may be better than the mask they want, but if the mask they want is “good enough” then they are just saving time and avoiding arguments.
By using a “good enough” standard mask they do not need to take the time to determine if your mask is good enough, and they don’t need to argue with people when their used jockstrap fails to be considered “good enough” despite it being approved by someone else last time.

I know. But at the same time when they require you to wear the cheapest mask available that pretty much fits no one properly, I can't help but to think that the effort is more for appearance and placating politicians than it is for actually protecting anyone.
