No haircuts ??

Starting to look a little shaggy so I went down to my barbershop this morning to get clipped. Sign on door said "closed until further notice due to health concerns". ?? Checked the other 2 barbershops in town and they also are closed. Stopped at the eye doctor on the way home to schedule a yearly eye exam and it is closed until further notice, too. Looks like everyday life, not just camping, is going to change dramatically for a while. Can't get a haircut - - I'll end up looking like the hippie I was 50 years ago - - only fatter.

Our local HEB is advertising that they'll deliver orders of under 25 items free to senior citizens during this crisis.

Too may are treating this like a cold! The numbers of sick are growing at a rate I have never seen. Thank goodness things are being done now that were not done in 1918! Look that up and you can see how putting your head in the sand doesn't help! I would love to drive home to Jersey but where I am now is way safer the my home county, even my home town. Just honked down and keep safe!

I just got a haircut about a week before everything heated up. Figure I'm good through July. If longer I guess I'll just put it all into a ponytail.

Of course I might just trim up the sides that I can see and grow a Mullet.


Sad part is that Barbers and Beauticians are often independent contractors and don't have any unemployment benefits. A group that's going to get hit really hard if this goes on for any length of time.

Yes, and I worry that I won't be able to see a dentist if a toothache arises. I guess ER would be the only option, and no telling what I would be exposed to there.

As for haircuts, went for years in the 60s and early 70s without a real one, but might be different with fat @$$ and receding hairline.

What's the difference between a good haircut by a barber and a bad one you do yourself?

Luckily my barber was in his shop cutting hair with the closed sign in the window and he was wearing a **** with the Constitution printed on it. “Essential” is very relative. A hair cut for me is essential as I have grooming standards for work. He called the governor’s office to ask if the governor would pay his shop rent over the next month and was denied.

I was glad to go in and support his business.

Dentists are still allowed to see appointments for pain issues but do you really want to see them is the question - personally I don't want anyone in my face right now.

Your barber / hairdresser is protecting their family by not seeing people and we will likely all see some kind of tax break next year for small business if not sooner. This thing does not need you to show signs to be contagious to others! Fatality rate may only be 2% but that is really high for a virus of any kind.

Dang. I sure wished I had gotten a haircut before I left Florida. Course, I have absolutely beautiful hair, and it's always painful to have to cut it. I'm so blooming pretty! So now, no more pain for a while. BUT......I might have to get dog tags soon.

My old uncle kept a bottle of whiskey handy for such an emergency. He claimed it was good for a lot of other ailments too.

I think you should consider paying your barber (if you can afford to) what you normally would, including the tip, for however long this lasts. I will be sending payment to my barber via Venmo once every two weeks until he can reopen his shop.

I have no sense of style. Therefore, I cut my own hair, in Marine Corps fashion. It's easy, all you need is a pair of clippers and ZIP, it's gone!

DW usually cuts mine but is in severe pain with nerve twitching due to a pinched nerve in the back that requires surgery so I would be crazy to let her cut cut my hair. Surgery was scheduled for March 26th but has been postponed until all this is over. Guess I will look like a hippy.

I've been married to an expert on #2 clippers for 36 years, but having said that it is becoming more and more obvious how this virus affects every day life. I learned this morning that the Manitoba healthcare system is unable to refill heart medication prescriptions and an elderly woman on her way to the hospital in Winnipeg for her cancer treatment got a call saying all her appointments had been canceled - call that two death sentences in one week in the same family.

You may have a low opinion of your health system but I doubt that it is any worse than in other countries INCLUDING the U.S.. Not according to what I have read anyway. Here are two articles from Canadian Broadcasting Company today. Sounds exactly what I have read about in any other country.

And just on last nights national news (NBC) there were two stories about the exact same thing happening. One woman with breast cancer and one with colon cancer were both supposed to start treatments within the next week or so. Both cancelled until further notice. The woman with colon cancer was, I believe, stage 4 so delaying treatments, for her, is likely a death sentence.

My wife was recently diagnosed with some kidney issues and was supposed to see a specialist at the end of the week. Waited 3+ weeks for that appointment. The office called and it is posponed indefinitly. I called in mid-February to schedule my yearly exam for mid-April. That's when I get my old-fart medicine prescriptions redone for the next year. Surprise, surprise, the first appointment I could get was mid-May. My prescriptions will all run out by then and none have any re-fills left. The receptionest said, "You should have called in January." Almost three months to get a routine appointment - - and people complain that the VA is bad. Meh. I am expecting my appointment to be postponed also so I guess I'll just do without the RX's. Probably won't kill me.

As I started out - - I don't think any country is much worse than another in this thing. Seems that everyone was caught with their pants down. And even though my haircut post may have sounded like I was poo-pooing the problems (I didn't mean to) I do take the situation seriously and take the proper precautions. I am not out kissing strangers or licking door-knobs but I am not going to get so paranoid that everyday life stops. Still have to keep living. Still have to shop and do the everyday things that life requires. To quote from a recent movie (thanks Helen Mirren), I'm not going to live like I was already dead.

I obviously don't know how it works with your Dr but with mine when my "maintenance" prescriptions are about to run out I just re-order from my pharmacy, they call my Dr, and he (now she) will send a new prescription to the pharmacy. If it's a prescription that pretty much requires an exam prior to continuing on the med, my Dr just gives me a 30 day supply rather than a 90 day or more supply.

There should be no reason one should not be able to refill their maintenance meds just because the Dr is booked out into the future.
