Open For Business Private Camprounds ?

I have a long weekend camping trip planned for Easter weekend at Mama Gerties near Ashville, NC...I called the other day and was told currently it's business as normal for them of course something can change between now and April 10th the day I am scheduled to leave.

Were located about 90 miles away so I can make it round trip on a tank of gas and our plan was to just relax at the site and use are own facilities (Full hookup site) and social distancing.

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are about the private campgrounds that are open and if there are people still considering going to or are they throwing in the towel now and canceling ?

It seems a lot of private CGs are staying open unless their local governments order them to close. Most of the closings I see are State and Federal Parks and a few family themed private CGs because of the liability they might incur. Just have to call them or check their websites regularly. That's what I'm doing.

Just remember that even people who feel fine and exhibit NO symptoms can pass it along.

If you can guarantee that no one, and nothing you touch has the virus, go ahead.

...Please define 'this' and 'soon'. I believe it will be months before enough data and reality catch up with each other. I certainly hope I am wrong. The 14 days quarantining should make a significant difference. Of course, that does not mean you can't go camping.

How is that any different from staying at home?

X2. We're finding that out here in Alaska. "YOU" yourself can be a carrier and not even know it!

I don't agree with many things the government is doing during this outbreak. However one thing I agree with is, if at all possible, travel very little. If you can stay in your county do so. Still a free country, I think, so if you want to travel please be careful. For yourselves and others.

I would imagine that everything will be locked down except for essentials. Massachusetts just did it. If you go to a campground you would have to stay either in or near the rig. No outside restaurants, bathrooms and check in Office is questionable as far as the virus. Just like staying home. I'm holding off camping for now. Hate to get stuck somewhere.

Found a great camp site, everything open, full supplies, no restrictions and it's free! And, best of all, I don't have to move the rig. It's my side yard parking spot. No virus threat to me, or others, there.

I was supposed to be at that KOA today for 3 nights coming back from a week in FL. The whole two weeks was canceled due to my need to self-quarantine. My friends in Wilmington suggested it had become a hot spot for COVID-19. Roll the dice.

I don’t get the craziness. Per CDC near 80k people died of the flu or it’s complications such as pneumonia or 219/day. 2016 there were 102 deaths a day from traffic accidents.

I think camping is going to be pretty safe. Worry about what is happening is most likely doing more harm than covid-19

I believe it is the 'unknown' factor and the quick spread. Perhaps it is because the flu was more understood despite the toll? Until such time that we flat line the numbers, this is still "unprecedented".

Trip

We canceled trip to a crowded park in Port Isabel. Too great a chance for spreading virus. We are planning to go to TX state parks-big areas in-between camp sites. There are plenty sites available. Have been told safer if not using restrooms and bring soap and paper towels.

I’m wondering why close CGs at all. Most people keep a good distance from other people anyway and if someone is sick they will go home or sit in the camper. I feel sorry for the full timers who have nowhere to go. I wonder where they are ending up. Who decides who closes and who opens? I here Lowe’s is open but you can’t go to McDonald’s. I like going in when on the road. Maybe martial law would close the whole country down and then we’d know what we could and couldn’t do. Oh well. I’m going to enjoy here at this CG till Friday. Have a good day all

camp... and use the same precautions as you would use WHEN you go to the store for food and supplies, which everyone needs to do from time to time. THis is same behavior as you would use even if at home. Ohio said to enjoy the outdoors, just avoid congregation areas, like kid playgrounds and public facilities.
