Poll - Snowbirds - flying south this year?

Wondering how many folks will be doing the snowbird thing, vs. staying put, this winter.

If you like, you can respond as if you'd be boondocking long-term, not in an RV Park, this year.

Don't need long responses on the 'why' or 'why not'... just looking to see how many will be traveling away from home, once Ol' Man Winter makes his seasonal visit.

Answers are anonymous (unless you also choose to post, along with your vote)

And if any of you have reservations in florida parks on the beach you can't use let me know. I live in fla but can't make reservations months in advance, so everything is full to me.

Since we're from Western Washington, we refer to ourselves as "Rainbirds".
Yes we'll be heading south in February, to SoCal and Arizona.
Should be less crowded if the Canadians aren't allowed in.

Will be traveling to where we are fairly secluded. But that’s what we have always done, since we use a motorhome and camp where there is a lot of space.

I wouldn't count on it. The more people that are traveling right now will make up for the Canadians.

We made reservations for Anza Borrego a month ago. We drycamp but all the hookup sites were booked for when we are staying in February.

I live in SW Florida, so I'm already 'here'. But we will be heading farther south to the Keys for Thanksgiving week and then a month in April. Same place - we know it's safe er.

To get back to the places we stay in Florida, we need to have reservations at least a year in advance, so we are booked in our regular spots from the end of January through March. We feel safe in the RV as we usually have minimal contact with others .....

We traveled to AZ every year for spring traing baseball, then the snowbirds found out about this RV park, had to make a reservation in Sept for March, don't know if current times have changed things, there was no one here in July and August, (reason we were there in the summer?) We moved from the horrible state of CA (MHO) to beautiful AZ

We will be leaving UpState NY this year on 1 Nov like we always do. This will be our fifth winter excursion since retirement. We normally return home the first week of May, but this trip we won't be home until Sep 2021. DW has a family reunion in Oregon in July. The only things that might alter our plans are fires, elections, riots, and viruses.

BTW: We have almost all the reservations already.

We drove North from Florida Keys to Wisconsin in June shopping/stopping only three times for fuel but camped 15 nights in 6 or 7 campgrounds. Most campgrounds were very busy. Most had the bathrooms closed.

Heading South in a few weeks and finding the campgrounds to be very busy again. We stay in State and Federal. This trip South is 25 nights and about a dozen campgrounds.

On the way North many only allowed reservations and no walk-ins. I don't know if walk-ins are allowed this Fall in those parks. But booking everything in advance just in case. But it is not easy as there are very few campsites available on all weekends and surprisingly few available weekdays. Using your own bathroom and avoiding shopping and dining seems like a safe fun way to make the trip. But I would not count on being able to walk in without a reservation in all the places one would expect.

Travelling south?

Staying in Canada-closed border makes the decision easier but am up in age, over weight and type 2 diabetic so not worth the risk for me. I expect cases will surge again this fall-already starting here in Canada. Almost all snowbirds I have talked to locally are not going to Florida this winter so will be a major economic hit for Florida I expect. Hopefully things will be better by next year. Stay safe everyone.

If we go to our home in FL, we have a mandatory HOA order to self quarantine for 2 weeks. We have talked it over and have agreed to play the odds. Our current location county has 57 confirmed Covid 19 cases and no deaths. The FL county has 2,953 confirmed Covid 19 cases and 131 deaths. We may change our minds. We don't need reservation.

Interesting observation, we live in the central part of British Columbia, Canada. We thought camping close to home would be a breeze this year, not so much, all of our private and provincial campgrounds near us and all over were booked solid. One particular private campground we love is Loon Bay Resort on Sheridan Lake, we got a site for a week and all the licence plates were from our province where normally you would see about half from Washington, Oregon, California. Apparently also very hard to buy a RV now.
As to the original poster, yes as soon as the border opens we will be head South but as the US population can’t seem to figure out this Covid thing it may be a long time
