Newbie: 2022 Wildwood FSX 270RTKX Tire Upgradeable?

I'm new to RVing, I'm looking into getting a 2022 WILDWOOD FSX 270RTKX. I've read that the stock tires it comes with are not good and are prone to blow outs... not sure if that's true, but if that's the case are these easily able to upgrade to 15in/16in? I saw a video on youtube where the guy said he wasn't able to upgrade to 15in but I think it was a older version.

Welcome to the forum!

Replacing tires depends on the type of tires it comes with. Find out what kind of tires your rig will have on it. Many dealers will upgrade to something like Goodyear tires.

Upgrading doesn't necessarily mean bigger tires. If you upgrade to a 'load rating' that is better than the stock tire, you'll be better off. Look for tires that can carry more capacity and run at a higher speed.

Those are the tires that people have trouble with. They have a load range of D and a max speed of 75 mph. From the internet. "Load range D has a capacity of 1,220 lbs at 65 mph.
They are size 205 75R15 (from the WalMart website). So it's a 15" tire made for trailers.

Your choice is to upgrade or not upgrade, get a better load range or not. Some people have no trouble with those tires and some people have had blowouts (as with any tire).

If it were me? I'd opt for a brand name tire with a higher load range. But it's a matter of cost and where you're towing. Last I heard, rv sales were strong and negotiating a better tire was difficult or impossible, but you can always try.

Thanks Snowbird!
Any suggestions/recommendations on what to get? I hear a lot about Goodyear Endurance. I do get 50% discount on anything continental, but I don't think they have tires that would fit.

I don't have a recommendation. We had continentals on our RAM van mh and they were a good tire. I've also seen a lot of posters on this site switch to Goodyear Endurance.

Larger tires will also raise your camper... minor amount, but also increase your ramp angle. We have a NTU 280 with those tires, and no issues after over 3000 miles, including 1900 in 3 weeks.

Welcome to the Forum.

Not all the tires that come standard have issues. See what the camper comes with before replacing the. My Goodyear dealer recommends Carlisle trailer tires.

I replaced my "stock" tires with Goodyear Endurance tires. Huge difference in even just the "feel" when towing my 35 foot 299RE Wildwood. Smoother, higher pressure ( 80 PSI), an improvement in gas mileage, safety factor etc.

And my old ones still had over 3/4 of the tread,..I changed them out due to age and some checking that was starting.

Never had any problems with my castle rock tires had for 5 years before I replaced them and that was only because they were old and I have a lead foot and have been known to do 80 on highway and did just fine .

My last Wildwood blew a tire at 1,200 miles that cost about $1,400 in repair work, By the time I sold the trailer I had had 4 blowouts totaling about $4,000 and had finally upgraded one size and to Goodyear Endurance tires. I would NEVER buy another trailer without first upgrading the ties and then having the axles professionally aligned!

Tires

So we downsized from a 26 to a used 19 foot this year and put almost 10,000km on it. Planning to do the same next year.

When I got back I looked at the tires and almost died - (1235) I know what that means.

The dealer only has Hakuba, whatever those are, or do I wait for the Carlisles to come in?

I liked he Endurance which are supposed to be US made. We upgraded from Load Range D to E with no problems

I also never had any problem with Carlisle's best ST Radials also upgraded range to E, and although they are probably Chinese too, they are miles above Castle Rock and other factory original CRAP

X2 on upgrading load range and speed rating. I upgraded on all three of my trailers, and haven't had a blowout in 6 years.
