Outside speakers

Has anyone removed/replaced the outside speakers? Our main door hits one of them (it sticks out several inches from the wall) and I was thinking of replacing them with a more "flush" mounted pair. However, I don't know how deep the hole in the wall is to accept standard speakers.

No make/model of your rig, not sure. Have you tried a door stop near the speaker? Is it a factory intsalled speaker (doubt it?), but......

Yoou can remove the speaker to see what depth you have for another speaker. Just be sure to seal the speaker again to prevent water leaks when done

- 2023 Impression 235RW

- A door stop would stick out at least 4 inches and be pretty damn ugly and easy to get caught on when the door is closed.

- Um ... yes ... it's factory installed. Why would I install a speaker that interferes with the operation of the main door and then ask the questions I asked?

- Yes, I can remove it but I was asking the community if anyone else has before I do remove it since the camper is sleeping for the winter and I don't want to wake it up.

- The attached stock image clearly shows where the factory installs the speakers and the rear one clearly interferes with the door.

Just trying to help: I have no clue what you have done to your rig, if anything... And not posting make/model originally doesnt get folks that have done it just reduces educated responses: Post a question, you will get answers......

And you could place a door stop up HIGH so no one gets snagged

Only someone who actually used your model would know the door will hit the speaker. There’s no such thing as quality control or a REAL design team involved with these things.

Other people have made their own modifications and THEN realized a design flaw.

I suspect from the virtual design of the speakers I see on your rig, the opening behind them is just big enough for the wires. The depth of the actual speakers you have is to HELP provide some bass sound……they’re a joke, but used on countless brands of RVs.

You’re right. Now that you provided a photo, we can all see that the door will hit the speaker. If you don’t install flush mounted speakers, You can install a gas strut to stop the door from opening all the way, or install a paracord to stop the door travel. Your choice.

melvinjo - my apologies for coming across as I did. I had just finished a useless 2 hour phone call (including many transfers) with Verizon about my cell phone problem.

I don't have your brand trailer but I'd expect that the exterior wall is only in the ball park of 1.5" thick so you really can't sink a speaker too deep. Best I can suggest is to remove the existing speaker to see whats there, then go to a Crutchfield or similar and see what they have in stock.

I wish they never installed outside speakers on any rv. Nothing pleases me more than having to listen to another campers "music", or racket when im trying to chill out.

I have a 2020 Phoenix 5er that has flush mount speakers. Not sure of the size but they would cure your problem. Later RJD

My speakers are a round hole in the outside wall with a flush mount speaker. The magnet of the speaker protrudes inside my trailer but since they are in cabinets or back wall of a closet I don't care.
Are your speakers surface mount?

Mine are this type- https://www.amazon.com/JENSEN-MS5006...s%2C169&sr=8-3

This is another possibility IF you can cut a hole that is hidden in a
cabinet or closet.

John,

You can figure out how deep the wall is by simply looking in the baggage door (open in the stock image you posted).

Step two is to figure out what's behind each speaker. If it's cabinets (often is) then you can use a deeper flush-mounted speaker and let the back side protrude into the cabinet.

After you've done these two things, let us know what you've found and we can come up with more creative solutions if necessary.
