A/c trouble

My A/C compressor shuts down after running only a few minutes . Then starts cycling on and off.. When this happens the fan motor changes speed and runs faster

EDIT: See update in next post.

HELP!!! A/C issues

I have 2006 Salem camper I'm having all kinds of trouble with A/C at first it was short cycling and I figured out I was using a smaller Gage cord the I needed. Then I replaced the cord and the a/c ran fine for an hour or so then it just stopped and nothing is coming on now not even the fan.... It's driving me nuts

Are you plugged in to an outlet at your house? Is that outlet protected by a GFCI circuit? If so, did the GFCI trip? If not that, did your house breaker for that circuit trip?

This will sometimes happen on very hot humid days when you first turn on the AC. The condenser will ice up. If you have a ducted system, open the dump vent until the RV cools. This allows a higher air flow and should help. This can also happen if the campground voltage drops due to high usage as the lower voltage will cause the compressor to run hotter. This triggers the over temp protection in the compressor.

Then you still need to answer if the circuit breaker tripped for that circuit in your house panel. And, you should check the A/C circuit breaker in the trailer... besides doing what Flybob suggested.

If you're hearing the relay engage in the ceiling box but nothing is starting then I'd check for 120 volts going to the A/C control box. The relays are powered by 12 volts so they can work even if there's no 120 volt supply.

Did you turn the A/C breaker in the power distribution panel off and then back on. Sometimes they'll be tripped and not look like it.

What size extension cord are you using? It sounds like you are a 15 amp circuit. Too small, or too long a cord can cause a voltage drop. If that is the case a hard start capacitor might help.

Low voltage due to use of an extension cord will destroy an AC over time.

You should never run your AC on an extension cord unless it is rated for 30 amps and less than 50 feet. While the compressor may run, the excess current in the windings will "hopefully" cause the thermal circuit protection in the compressor's motor to open until it can cool off.

If the thermal breaker fails due to over use, the compressor can fail or catch fire.

X2 low voltage will destroy a compressor. Hopefully it thermalled out and in 2-3 hours it will reset.
