Hot water Concern

I have a question in reference to a possible issue with the water heater, not sure if it is. Anytime the hot water valves are turned on in the shower and kitchen sink, a noise is heard and the water pressure trickles out, I have to turn the cold water valve on so a sufficient amount of hot water also emits out. Any suggestions as to the reason why this is occurring?

Is this on city water, or on your tank and pump?
Sounds like a vacuum forming in the line, somehow.

Check the position of the winterizing valves behind the water heater to make sure that they are turned correctly.

I am on city water, I have never winterized my rig, but will check the valves.

Also verify that your outside shower valves are fully closed. If they are open, but the cut-off button on the shower is pushed, it will act the same as if the WH bypass valve was open.

Check the check valve at the water heater. Could be failing or plugged with something?

Thinking still on this, but it sounds like you might have the 3 valve bypass setup on your water heater, and the middle valve is turned the wrong way...

Not all WH's have 3 valves, not all have check valves. I've attached a drawing of the many ways I've seen the valves plumbed on this forum. Good luck.
