What type/style rims do you have. Forest River utilizes some alloy rims that a four way lug wrench will not work on due to the inset of the lug seat and the space between the lug nut and rim .

Sometimes with these type rims, you may need a thinner wall socket to be able to fit over the lug nut and between the rims inset.... Where a four way lug wrench's sockets are too thick.

A picture of these rims on your rig would help.

Go to Harbor Freight and buy a 1/2" breaker bar and a set of 1/2 inch drive sockets. The regular sockets should work on any rim, but maybe the impact sockets would be better, but check to make sure they fit the wheel. Six point sockets rather than 12 point sockets.

Then maybe think about buying the 1/2 inch torque wrench to get those lugs tightened properly. 110# is correct I think...?

ideal lug wrench, ... four thin wall socket sizes, telescoping handle provides great leverage, stores into a small package

Nice looking, but the four sizes are metric: 17mm, 19mm, 21mm, and 23mm. The US travel trailers all still use inch dimensions, right? These will probably fit US lug nuts, but they will be a little sloppy.

Walmart can sell this product as universal, since all the US car and truck manufacturers have gone metric, but I don't think the trailer axles have done so.

After you figure out your wheel lug nuts, also check the lugs that hold the spare tire to the carrying mount. Some diabolical engineers use a different size.

the 19mm fits my lug nuts perfectly, ... BUT, I have replaced the original nuts because of the metal shells that come on the original nuts that can come loose and spin, ... and I would advise anyone else to do the same, ... don't remember what size fit the original nuts, but they are gone anyway, .... IMO that is the ideal lug wrench, at least for me it is, ......

Right! 19mm metric happens to be very close to 3/4" SAE. You would not be so fortunate if you had e.g., 13/16" lug nuts.

No big deal. Just get the right 1/2 socket and use that. All it is is a telescoping breaker bar that comes with four sockets. I may go buy one just to see how it works. Been needing a new one anyway.

Most 4-way lug wrenches like those at the auto parts stores/walmart/etc. won't fit units with aluminum wheels.

It takes a THIN wall socket. The auto parts 4-ways are too thick to go over the lug nut and into the wheel's lug hole.

When you do buy a socket, be sure to buy a 6 point, thin wall socket.
A 12 point socket will round off the lug nuts as many have a cheap chrome cover over the lug nut and a 12 point will ruin them.

I couldn't tell from the photo whether the bar actually had a square 1/2" end or whether it was some proprietary shape that only fits their double-ended sockets.

The question made me curious, so I just attempted to fit a 1/2" drive extended into a 19mm socket from the wrong end to see if it fits. It does, so it very well could be a standard 1/2" drive.

It does...I just bought one. 22" extended..decent leverage. Should work better than that collapsible 4-way I've had for years.

I use this one or this one when rotating the tires on our tow vehicle. It's solid, not tubular like the extendable, which is great when the tire place has overdone it with their air wrench.

Of course I always just snug things down and use a torque wrench for the final tightening.

Home depot sells a 4 PC set of sockets especially for lug nuts. They are metric but 1/2" drive thin walled, deep well and rubberized to protect wheel and lug nuts. Other places sell these as well, but found HD had best price.

I really appreciate this thread. It got me thinking. All the tools I carry. All of the stuff we need to have. And I completely forgot about a jack and lug wrench. I guess I would have been enlightened had I needed one. But this three has saved me the hassle.
Thank you. I’ll be heading to the store tomorrow. February in AZ is the start of camping season!
Been along 2 months off.

Use your levelers (lego or anderson) instead of the jack. Get a breaker bar and the right size 6 sided socket.

Heavy-duty extra-big 4 way at WalMart. I think I paid around 20 bucks. Probably find it cheaper at Harbor Freight.
