New RV owner with bunkbed question
Good afternoon. I just purchased my first TT about a month ago...Forest River 179DBK. I joined this forum at the same time and have gained tons of valuable knowledge that has informed my decisions on what essentials I needed to purchase. The wife and I are taking our maiden voyage on Monday to Prince Gallitzen State Park, PA and are very excited. I will sneak in one question here...Where can I purchase a bunkbed ladder for my specific trailer floor plan.
Thanks!

Since FR has around 100 different brands and Forest River is not the brand name, can you tell us what brand your 179DBK is?
It's kinda of like saying "I own a GM Camaro".

Mine didn't have a bunk ladder either. I bought a Carlsberg? Aluminum ladder off eBay and cut about 6" off it for optimum fit between angle and getting around the ladder in place at night. I looked at making a wood one but it would have been over twice as heavy.

We have the same floor plan, 179DBK. Ours did not come with a ladder for the top bunk but the booth is built with a step on the top of the seat on the bunk side, at least it is on ours. Our two kids have no problems using that step to get up and down. We found we didn't need to purchase a ladder. If you need one I always say one can buy anything on Amazon.

Our previous TT a Fleetwood Orbit 280BH didn't have a ladder (or if it did, it didn't come with it when we bought it used...). Kids just climbed up on bottom bunk, then next step was the dinette bench and then onto the top bunk. Dismount was that in reverse, or just jumped straight down.
Our current 5er, a Silverback 35k, doesn't seem to have a ladder either. But the oldest (16yrs) was able to climb up just by using the bottom bunk.
We'll have to see if the younger two (both 13) can climb up the same way. We don't get possession of it till early June when our permanent site is ready, and they didn't tag along the day we went to "look".

I considered buying a ladder but the distance to the upper bunk in my Surveyor is a manageable 50" from the floor. Instead of a ladder, I will use an easier to store, folding step stool.

The ladder that came with mine is big, heavy, and useless. It lives in our basement. I have considered a rope ladder with half of its length cut off. But, in the end, we just use athletic ability for top bunk access.

Since bunks are generally kids domain and they love to climb, I might install a few of those plastic rock climbing foot-holds on the wall leading to the bunk.

My old unit had a ladder that was made in bunk/shelving/TV area? One had to lift the ladder a bit and pull out at the bottom. Maybe that is missing?

I like this solution and thats how my grandson gets to the top bunk. Im just worried that the step on top of the seat bench wont hold up

Your thread is already there.
Go to the Forum main page and scroll down to the TT/5th Wheel section.
Click on that and scroll down to the Salem sub-forum.
We recommend every new member go through each Forum section and check out the sub-forums in each of them.
