Wink poor design of fresh water tank

We have an older (2004) Salem T23 and of course bought it used. The fresh water tank release valve(similar to g/b water valve was broken. Had it repaired, and last week pulled off highway to allow cars to pass and must have broken the new cap. It wasn't the original valve because obviously that was a poor design. We saw a 2005 Salem and the fresh water tank was in a completely different place, safe from road hazards. Has anyone else had this issue? My husband fixed it by replacing the plug with a rubber gasket that tightens and expands as its screwed in. Hope it works. Going on a girl's camping trip to lake Tahoe next week

You're referring to the drain?

Btw... welcome to the forum!

Yes the drain. And thanks for the welcome. I spoke with a service business today and he told me the fresh water tank is the exact same tank as the blk/gry water tanks in that model. And they are $299 with a $40-50 shipping cost. Hope my husband's repair holds

Indeed, best of luck with the repair.

The query re the drain was because you made mention of a plug in your original post. Some fresh water tanks (FWT) have a drain and a plug. Nevertheless, there are a variety of options available for repairing these tanks should the repair ultimately fail, which are much less expensive than going the tank replacement route. Is your FWT exposed to the elements? Trailer underbelly not enclosed?
