On our Hemi 282RK, the electric works as long as you're plugged in. The panel switch is for the propane side of the heater, OFF and ON. When pushed on, the indicator for the ingnition comes on until the heater is lit. The propane wil stay on until you turn it off.
If you turn the propane heater on, both electric and popane will heat your water. This is ideal for showers as you get faster hot water recovery.
