Salem Slide out Floor coming apart

Just noticed this after my 3rd camping trip. I noticed light coming in under the couch where the wall and floor meet. This is about a 1 foot long section of the floor with a 1/2 inch gap I took outside the camper. Taking to the dealer on Monday.

After almost 2 weeks of sitting at the dealer, I was advised that FR will be needing to do the repairs at the factory and I am responsible for transporting the TT to the factory. My 2009 was was returned to the factory for extensive repair under warranty with in the first 3 months and I was not required to transport. I have read numerous threads on this forum about units having to be returned to the factory for repair.... Before I go into full attack mode(after having to rent a TT for our vacation next week) Is this the new norm for FR? I took delivery of the new unit 03/2013.

I doubt there is any standard at FR since each company is managed separately. FR just happens to be the parent company that owns them all.

That said, my Sabre is going back to the factory in a couple of weeks and Sabre is arranging a driver to come pick it up from my house.

As for your vacation next week- can the dealer make a recommendation if it is safe to use for one more trip or not?

Unfortunely not, the rest of the floor is starting to separate from the slide frame.

I'd certainly be baulking at delivering the camper to the factory...that should be covered by their warranty. It's not your fault (nor should it be your expense) that the warranty repair can only be done at the factory.

Dave

Was just sitting here thinking...did we make a mistake buying a FR product...after reading *SO* many posts about problems (ours included, of course)....

then I realized....

OF COURSE there are more issues being revealed right now...it's SUMMER!

DUH.

I will say that after a few extra phone calls, our issues are being handled *quickly* and efficiently...we'll pick 'er up next Friday.

I've learned we must be assertive (not aggressive...honey vs. vinegar) with our dealers. Getting warranty work does goes through several different people at the dealer and balls can get dropped. Example: the warranty facilitator at our dealer didn't realize another warranty scheduler *had* made that all important *appointment* when we brought our baby in. There also seemed to be an issue with the all important paper work/work order chain of custody.

Keep notes, document, document, document. Travel up the ladder of command if you're not getting the answers/resolutions you think you deserve/paid for. As I said, sometimes it's a simple case of someone dropping the ball or not following through.

Here's hoping you'll be a happy camper again...SOON!

Our dealer is almost 100 miles away. Regarding expense...yeah, we had to foot the bill for taking it back to them almost three weeks ago. Didn't consider asking them to cover the transport. (shrug) We just decided to make a day of it in that city...going to the boardwalk, etc.

We also knew we'd be headed that way for a planned trip next Friday so we'll just load everything in the TV, swing by there and hitch up, then travel on in to TX for the weekend.

They're going to work with us on the hitch set up when we arrive, to make sure everything is kosher since we've bought a new TV since we bought the TT 2 months ago....went from F150 Ecoboost to an F250 Super Duty.

'Sall good.

Now, takin 'er to the factory???? That'd be a whole different situation.

Sorry for the late reply. I was having some login issues. After 3 weeks of sitting at the dealer....and waiting for warranty authorization from FR...it was determined the support screws were sheared from the top of the floor. The dealer had to redrill new holes and secure from the bottom up from underneath outside of the trailer. I noticed prior to delivery...different dealer..that the floor on the right lower side of slideout was separated from the support beam while slideout was in. Was told not an issue as the slideout lifts up when in and lowers when fully extended and is supported. Wrong..it was determined that the slideout floor must of been walked on after slideout was inside the trailer prior to delivery. FR is aware of this issue. Warning to all Salem owners. Do not step on the slideout floor when slideout is in. If you notice either side is separated from support beam on the floor while slideout is in. Get it fixed.

Thanks for the update. Glad " for the rest of us " to hear that it was more human caused and not a manufacturing defect. And they got you fixed up rather painlessly. Already had heard through this forum not to walk on slides while in. On most slides I would think that to be the case.
One more item that is manufactured to just made barely to be used as intended on all camper now days. The Old Weight vs Cost vs Profit formula ....
Hope you have no more problems and lots of Happy Camping Days ahead.

slide floor

I do not remember any warning in the paperwork or during walkthrough for my trailor. My street is too narrow for me to extend the slide while loading for a trip and am forced to step on the front edge of floor to put things into the cabinets above sofa. We have actually sat at the dinette table(taking a break)with the slide in. Hope we have not damaged anything. Will check next time I can. Thanks for the warning.
