Security

Just picked up my first TT..272qbxl

Question is on security of the battery and lp tanks.

Is there a cost effective way to secure these items?

I've seen some pretty expensive setups.Click image for larger version

DO you keep the trailer in storage? I've camped for over 15 years now and never had one stolen or even messed with. Only heard of it when in storage lots so it seems. Welcome, BTW.

I'd just take them home. No need for them if they are just locked up in a lot. Then, no need to lock them or spend extra money. I have not seen any cheap ways other than some home brew stuff that, if wanted, a thief will get it. Even the pricey options... Only keep the honest away. I'd be more concerned about the flat screen inside... Or the other "expensive" stuff a thief will THINK is inside. Almost all side storage locks are keyed alike across ALL trailers... Doors are prob not much better and easy to jimmy. I used to be worried about all that, but that's not why I got into camping!

A chain with shank less lock will work for the bats and gas bottles. I leave a 3500 gen chained to a pole next to my unit that stays there when we are gone. Never had any attempts to move it.
There are more security cameras on our unit while in storage than in a post office.

We never worried about the battery and tanks (we keep inside gated lot with security cameras), no issues in 5 yrs. On our old tt we did lock the coupler shut. Still ways to steal it (smaller ball or just wrap chains around A frsme, yes it's bern do be) but again no issues for us. On our fiver we use a king pin lock.

I don't know, I used to work in Baltimore for several years and then in Camden, NJ for 7 years. Like I said, gated storage lot with video system and management lives in site too. This helps me not worry, also only 2 minutes from my house.

I remember during a Blizzard coming back from a Snowmobile Trip our friend called and said they were getting off the Interstate and stopping at a Motel, they had enough! We were going around Chicago when they stopped at a (Gated/High Security/Motel),they got a room and parked their Brand NEW Ford Custom Van,Brand New Matching Snowmobile trailer, with (3) Brand New snowmobiles inside right in Front of their Room! Next Morning (ALL Was GONE) never to be seen again! Due to the Blizzard we picked them up at the Dayton,Ohio airport 3 days later! If a THIEF wants it they will get it!! Youroo!!

They make a locking storage box for batteries. Wife and were camp host at a state park for four years and we had problems with people getting their batteries stolen. Usually it was someone that had brought their camper in and dropped it off during the week and didn't come back until the weekend. Unfortunately this park doesn't have controlled entrance and we use to get a lot of outside traffic of people just riding around, so hard to tell the bad guys from the good ones. I say find a way to lock it up. Druggies out there will steal anything. We even had numerous fire rings stolen and they would sell them for scrap iron. It was a shame because this was really a pretty park but in a very isolated area.

Thank you all for the posts...I guess worrying about it defeats the reason for purchasing the TT...I'll do what I can to make it safe and just have fun with it.
