Stabilizer Jack

Is it possible to replace just the hardware part of my stabilizer jack? It is new (2018) and the stabilizer jack is bent. It's rusted. The dealer will replace the motor under warranty....neither motor works, front nor back, more than a few seconds. The stabilizer bends even more when we manually lower it. What do you mean "hardware part"? Looks like someone tried to lift the trailer with it and if the motor doesn't work I bet the motor was blown when they (whoever) lifted the camper with it. Did you buy it like this? Why are they only replacing the motor?

I bought it new. It has not been down until we took it camping last week for the first time. The motor will run for just a second, the front one does the same. We manually cranked it down after we borrowed a tool and that's how it was. Can I replace just that arm?

That whole electric stabilizer needs to be replaced. Swapping out the motor is like a boob job on an 80 year old.

I agree but they won't do it. I just made my first payment. I can't afford a new one.

How can they replace just the motor and still leave you with a bent arm? That just not make sense...

Has dealer seen that damage or have you just been in phone contact?

Did you, by chance, raise the front of the camper to hook it to yoru tow vehicle before you raised the rear stabilizers?

No sir. When we put them down the first time they were bent. I had to put leveling blocks to support it but as we used the camper that weekend it kept bending.

In that case you were sold a damaged camper. If the dealer will not cause the warranty to be honored, contact Forest River directly. Explain everything to him.

In all likelyhood the dealer damaged it and does not want to pay for the replacement. He can get a motor from FR but not the jack assembly

Im curious what did they look like when you first brought them down? Were they flush up in their channel resting areas? If they were bent they wouldn't sit/rest flush in their channel. Did you notice anything before you extended them. I also assume they wont go flush now. As bad as that looks I dont know how you have had any ground clearance when towing unless you are bending it back straight when seating in the channel/resting position.

Not trying to insult your intelligence at all but these are stabilizing jacks, they do not lift the camper in any way, they are not designed as a lifting device. Did you try and lift the camper with them to level the camper? That is usually why these get damaged. If you didn't lift the camper it sure seems someone did and that is also the reason the motor doesn't work, it isn't designed to generate the lifting force needed and it gave up.

What does the other jack look like? Is it straight or bent as well?

If the dealer doesn't give a satisfactory answer, I'd call Forest River directly.

I agree, that makes no sense as to why they would replace the motor and not the jack arms, but sometimes that is how dealers are. If it is a brand new unit, the entire thing should be covered under a one year warranty anyways, so if that is the case, they HAVE to replace them for free!

The motor would not lower them-front or back. We had to borrow a tool. It was bent when we lowered it the first time. We went camping and had to use the yellow box because it would not go all the way to the ground. As we moved around in the camper it bends more. It is very weak.
