CHECK around ANTENNA for leaks!!!

I went out this morning to start getting our 365 ready for our beach trip by cleaning and treating the roof. I went to step by the antenna and the roof crunched under my foot and when I looked down, I saw fragments of wood sticking through the roof!!! It is very soft to the right of the antenna. I have had a Jack antenna for about a month, just waiting to change it, but now it looks more involved. The second pic is what I found when I got to looking, however, even with the gap, the lap sealant is still stuck on the metal at the base. Weird I know, but off to the dealer in the morning to see what they say. Only a 2 year old camper. Just a word of caution, or motivation, check around the antenna!!!

Mine was covered good, in fact so good I was not able to rotate it at first. The sealant was all the way up to the round piece where it spins.
Hopefully there is nothing horrible under there and the dealer can get you fixed up quickly.

Good news! Well sort of!! It is NOT water damage! It is just a crappy piece of OSB board that broke in a soft spot when I stepped on it..That's right, our roofs are OSB board up on top, not plywood. It will eventually have to be replaced, but for now, I am happy with the findings!

We have had one leak in the 4 years we owned our toy hauler and it was a small crack in the caulk around the antenna!

And that's why it's so important that you get up on top of your rig periodically and crawl around on your knees and carefully inspect every seam that is caulked. I always seem to find something that does not look right and add a bit of self leveling Dicor as required.

On vacation now and got onto the roof two days ago and found a few spots that needed addressed. I carry a can of mineral spirits and a tube of self leveling dicor with me. Cleaned the areas of old dicor and spot filled with new sealant. I'm amazed about the people I talk to that have never done any maintenance ever to their campers unless something actually breaks or goes wrong.

This is why as RV owners we must continuously monitor and maintain the roof and all caulking.
The Factory installed 'caulking' is not meant to last the life of the rig...nor can you trust it was done thoroughly at the factory.
Always....Always.... inspect 'all caulking'...especially the roof.
