Running furnace with trailer closed

Moderators note: This thread and a similar thread in the general section were merged to the Sandpiper section.

Hello all,

We recently went on our first camping trip of the year, and now have come back and Temps in the mid east are dropping below freezing. We have a sandpiper 376BHOK with a residential fridge in it, and over this last winter the ice maker intake pump broke as it froze(I didn't think about it when I winterized the trailer and dealer never showed me when they trained me on the trailer). So I don't want to re winterize the trailer as we will be going back out in the next month or so.

What I did and looking for anyone that has done it before, is it closed up all my slides, drained the low points, and am running the furnace set on 45deg. To hopefully keep anything from freezing.

I am not worried about the cost of propane, because it will be cheaper than anything I would have to repair it feel just looking for suggestions.

Thanks

If not worried about propane and have shore power to keep furnace motor gowing I would think you would be fine depending on where you live and how cold it is going to be.

Also a small electric heater or heat lamp light in underbelly would help. Leave cabinet doors under sinks open

I've accidentally ran my furnace while going down the road. No ill effects, but I wasn't crazy about the idea.

Are many of your heat registers blocked by slides?

Heater running

My Husband has never winterized our fifth wheel and we live where the temps are in the single digits. He also doesn't mind paying for propane. I'm a wreck because we never know if the furnace will malfunction. He has drain from the low points. Drained the HWH. And we set the furnace at 50. So far we have been very fortunate. Are slides are also in. Cabinets open and the duct vents are not blocked either. It's March the temps should be going back up. I don't know if this helps you or not.

I leave my motor home plugged in when I am home. I do blow the lines and drain the water heater for the coldest couple of months.

When we are in between planned trips, we leave it plugged up with water in it. I turn the electric water heater element on, tank heaters (if there is anything in the tanks). Put a small electric heater on the floor on low, then set the furnace thermostat for 50° as a back up if the power goes out, or the temps get a lot lower than forecast. This has worked down into the teens with no problems so far.
