Hello all I am an RV technician and the response from the fellow Rv folks are correct. the switch inside the Rv is for L.P ignition and the switch on the outside of the Rv is for 110 volt .l.p will heat up your tank faster 110v will act like a home water heater and will not recover as fast .

While we're on the subject of WH. Can I replace my 6 gal with something larger? I have room inside as it is under my kitchen sink. It's the trailer side opening I wondering about. Tthe trailer is 1400 miles away. It is a Suburban.

I would recommend you take it in to a shop near you to see if it can be done . So I can't tell you for certain if it can be done
