Towing question

Hello everyone.... Wondering if someone could answer a question... I was considering a new 365SAQ next year.... My question is.. can I tow it with my 2011 F250 6.7 diesel? It's not a dually but I do have an airbag set up in her already....

I have gotten answers all over the place from I would be slightly over my GVW to "you wont have any problems pulling it with your truck? I have pulled 15k with it before.... not a fifth wheel... Looking forward to hearing from you skilled folks....

Personally, in my opinion, you would have no problem pulling it, but would be quite over weight.

Yes. Again, haven't looked at any numbers, but I'm sure you would be. Load your truck up with normal camping stuff (firewood, family, maybe cooler) and weigh it. That subtracted from gvwr posted on the door jam will tell you for sure what you can still haul.

Then, it's up to you. I'm over on my gvwr, but under axle and tire ratings and feel very stable and safe pulling, hauling, and most importantly, stopping my fifth wheel.

Hey.... thanks for the info..... I'd probably be over my gvw by at least 800 to 1000 lbs... how do I know what my axle is rated for? I'm also running 20" tires.... don't know if that helps or hurts

I have a 2011 f 250 6.7 diesel with air bags. I also have a 2013 365saq. The truck pulls, stops and handles it perfect. I have gone from atl to Orlando twice, been in the north ga mountains and it did fine. The difference between a 350 and 250 are the rear springs.

I can't possibly imagine being that far overweight. I know people do it, but that's a LOT.

Dry Weight (lbs/kg) 11873 / 5385.6
Hitch Weight (lbs/kgs) 2060 / 934.4

this is for a 2012 model year 356saq coach, I know that # is off, dont think you will be that far or even over gross on the rear axle, how much can the axle carry on your truck? get it weighed now and try to find some numbers, their should be people on here that will have a # for that pin in the camping config

Don't really think that has much to do with his ability to carry the load if he wants to do it. He will be the one to foot the bill if the rear end doesn't carry it.
If what they say is true that the only difference between a 250 and a 350 is the springs, his airbags will offset the spring difference.

Cautioning folks is one thing, but trying to put the fear of the law is something else IMO.

My pin weight on my 365 is around 2900/3000 pounds as I carry water with me. That would be over the RAWR for your truck. My rig combined is around 25k which was over the GVWR for the '10 F350 I have but not over my '13. Yes, it is true that the only difference between the 250 and 350 is the rear springs. Go to Ford's website or Google it and you will find the payload capacity difference. That is what I am talking about here. The air bags won't change how much the truck can carry(legally) but it helps you carry it more effectively. That being said, LOTS of people pull them just fine with F250s. It would just depend on how you feel about pulling that much weight knowing what the manufacturer's recommendations are. Good luck..Oh and you'll love the 365!!!!

Some of the differences for a 2011 model Ford 250/350 SRW

Rear Axles: F-250 6,280 lbs; F-350 7,280 lbs these ratings are made up from spring rates, tire ratings & wheel strength - not because the axle assembly is different from model to model
Brakes: F-250 vacuum boost; F-350 hydro-boost (diesel only)
GVWR: F-250 max 10,000 lbs; F-350 max 11,500 lbs (SRW configuration)
Brake rotor diameter is the same on both models 13.66" front, 13.39" rear
Springs: F-250 two rear leaf spring; F-350 three rear leaf spring
Size of the blocks between the rear axle and rear spring

I think it's pertinent and not fear mongering that someone knows all sides of the issue. There have been posts on here from folks with direct experience that have indicated that if you're grossly overloaded that your liability risk increases. Not knowing the OPs background or prior knowledge, I think it's only fair to share the information from both sides. He may not have thought of the ramifications of the choice.

Will the truck pull it? Seems almost certain.
Will he be grossly overloaded? My gut/off the cuff thoughts say yes (especially after seeing the almost 3k pin weight for a 365saq).

I think if this person wants to overload their vehicle, they should do knowingly.

Do not want to start an argument, but having driven otr and 8 years as a city p&d, my feeling is not so much will it "pull it" but will it "stop it"??

I say yes. With the airbags I'm sure it will pull like a dream and power is a non issue with that truck. I pull our 2013 with a 6.4 Powerstroke 350 SRW. Pulls just beautifully. Don't pay any attention to the advertised 11,873 lbs or whatever the listed dry weight of the saq is though. That's a generic dry weight from the product line and is on every dealer website you will look at as the units weight. You need to see the yellow sticker with the actual individual units weight as weighed upon completion at the factory with all options added. Ours is 12,700 and change dry. A big difference to the advertised. We just ended or first full season with our 2013 today. Just got done winterizing, sadly. You will love the 365! Good luck with it.

Thanks to All!!!!

Thanks to all of you for your responses and expertice.... We hope to purchase our 365 in the spring..... After everything said I think I will hit the local scale and weigh my truck and see just how much over my gvw rating we will be.... If its too much we may have to go a little smaller and lighter,,, not sure yet... I drive a firetruck for a living, so pulling the monster doesn't scare me.... the legal stuff does, god forbid anything should happen.... Thanks again for all your help.. Happy camping...
